  1. [ubuntu] Re: What's the safest way to put Ubuntu on a 2nd hdd?

I did something similar on my desktop. An easy method is:

Remove the HD you have XP installed on. Switch the second one you want Ubuntu on to the main driver. Boot up and install Ubuntu. Then...

[ubuntu] Re: Nvidia Geforce 6600 problems

I had similar problems when I went to upgrade to the new 180.XX drivers. What fixed it for me was:

Download the drivers you want from nvidia,

    sudo apt-get purge nvidia

    - switch to TTY1 via...

[ubuntu] Re: Lack of help (or lack of interest?)

Yeah, the forums have been spitting out database access errors for me so reading and posting was, at times, a matter of luck.

I'd be glad to help as well, I certainly know my way around the...
  4. Re: Proposal: Replace Pidgin with Empathy by Ubuntu 9.04

The only problem I have with it is the way it reports new messages. I'd like some system tray notification like Pidgin. The way I have my desktop set up, I can't really see when new messages come in...

Re: Docky! the new awesome dock

By clicking and dragging the edges you can expand it to hold more icons. I don't know if you mean you've done that and still can't get enough icons on it or not.

I'm loving it. The deb for the 64...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Look what my Firefox does whenever I open it

Mine started doing the same thing yesterday. It's not consistent, however. Along with this problem, Cairo dock forgets it's not supposed to auto-hide. Since these problems started together, at the...

[ubuntu] Re: Intel Wireless Wifi Link 5100 on Hardy

I had the same exact problems.

To everyone who has the SIOCSIFFLAGS problem, keep trying!. It took me two reinstalls and tons of times repeating the steps but it finally worked on my copy of...

Re: HOWTO: Fingerprint reading in Ubuntu with fprint

Everything worked great for me, except I had to change

    fprint_demo
    to

    sudo fprint_demo

Otherwise, fprint_demo couldn't open the fingerprint reader (a Microsoft reader, btw). Works great,...

Re: Any Better Asian Language input than scim?

Ugh, yes, something better than SCIM is needed. I use Google Pinyin for my Windows-based Chinese needs. SCIM is just miserable. It behaves bizarrely, it randomly decides the amount of syllables it...

Re: .bashrc - terminal prompts - For newbies

The place I learned all my knowledge from was here.

    Great article. Hope it helps.

Well, it looks like the line actually doing the fancy coloring is commented out. See the following section?...

  12. Re: Improve (potentially halve) login time by using readahead

Your guide didn't halve my login time. It eliminated it almost entirely. I went from upwards of 10 seconds or more to roughly one second. This is with 2 gigs of RAM.

    Absolutely fantastic.

    Re: Players of wind instruments?

    Bassoon - 8 years
    Saxophone - 7 years

Although I get to play percussion in my university's next concert (I've played percussion for 6 years now, too), I play bassoon mostly, in wind symphony and...
