    You can use recmuco to control all forms of media player, and more general control can be had with anyremote — the former is Symbian, the latter a Java Midlet.

    I'm on Fedora 9 and this is absolutely brilliant! It might be worth pointing out that you'll probably have to change the devices in Skype's audio settings from 'default' to use this script though....

    To properly test the performance impact of KDE, why not run doom3 in a plain X session? Log out, switch to a VT, /etc/init.d/gdm stop, X, back to VT, DISPLAY:0.0 doom3
