  1. [ubuntu] Re: Bad Graphics driver removal without graphics interface

Thank you for your help, I have a fully working system again, with all my previous desktop effects just as they were!

For anyone else having these troubles the step I had missed was to boot into...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Black Screen After Enabling ATI Graphics Driver

    Thank you!

This has fixed my problems, and I am back to my original purple cube, all of the effects are now as they were before I installed the ATI driver from the add/remove menu! Great stuff...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Black Screen After Enabling ATI Graphics Driver

    Hello!

I am having this same problem and still have not figured it out, but the usual way to try to fix this is to:

Reboot, Wait for grub to pop up and press [esc] you should then get a...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Bad Graphics driver removal without graphics interface

Hello! I am having the same problems as the original poster.

Foolishly (I should have learnt my lesson from 7.10!) I thought I would try to install the Ati driver from the add/remove...
  5. [gnome] Re: Anybody else find that firefox freezes *constantly* in jaunty?

    Thank you benerivo!

I will try this when I close firefox in a bit. Thank you for the solution!

I hope something is done about this as on a side note, at work IE7 is actually more consistent...
  6. [gnome] Re: Anybody else find that firefox freezes *constantly* in jaunty?

I have recently installed jaunty on three different machines, one single and two quad cores. Every single machine has had an issue with firefox. This is a shame as one of my friends can barely read...

[ubuntu] Re: 32 or 64bit for new system

I have found that when encoding and compiling my ram goes up quite a lot but my cpu goes very high, so I suppose 64bit seems to boost the cpu calculation speed rather than cache more data in ram?

  13. Re: Why are Ubuntu ridiculous names ? Jaunty Jackalope?

Am I right in thinking that the adjectives are positive in meaning? I think that would be best as we wouldnt want to give a bad impression of Ubuntu! ^_*

Re: The person below you game

Yep, and one foot and breast too! No-one is naturally perfectly symmetrical!

(ps if you left handed swap the finger and thumb for x and y!)

TPBM has held up their hands to see?

Re: The person below you game

I use the right hand rule to help me remember which axis to edit something on in Source SDK.

Hold your hand up , point at the sky with your main finger, point to the left with the next finger and...
  17. Re: Why are Ubuntu names retarded? Jaunty Jackalope?

    Karmic Koala...

That sounds nice, but, it does give me the impression that if I do not treat it exactly right it will turn around and bite me.... no wait, that is perfect for *nix!

  18. Re: Why are Ubuntu names retarded? Jaunty Jackalope?

I never realise xp had a nick too! I can only guess what vistas would have been ('fail' maybe)!

Personally although the names can be a bit silly, (don't people vote for them?) I prefer it having a...

[ubuntu] Re: 32 or 64bit for new system

Lol! 32 vs 64 = windows vs linux = mod vs rocker and so on! Always a heated discussion with many valid (but conflicting) opinions!

This is your best solution for sure! Keep a seperate /home...

[ubuntu] Re: 32 or 64bit for new system

The problems I have had ( I admit this was about 6 months ago ) were not with the OS being 64 bit, but rather with everything else seeming to still be 32 (apps and such).
Drivers were a bit of an...

[all variants] Re: How to stop BT throttling my internet?

I do not blame your scepticism. I am kind of person who reads TOS and other boring things and have noticed that a lot of what BT profess on their website is in fact not the case (usually worse) eg...

[ubuntu] Re: 32 or 64bit for new system

    Hello!

If you only use bog standard features and are not a techie I would suggest you use 32 bit for ease of everything. If you are a little bit techie though I would use 64 bit for the smoother...
