  1. Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

Its pretty different from Beagle (though I think it makes use of Beagle?), and I like the concept, but it just doesn't seem particularly useful yet.

Re: Wine-Doors - Wine made easy

I've tried it - don't know what the deal is, but only the fonts install for me.
  3. Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

Nice job! Any chance we could get a "what's new" RSS feed, maybe break up that "Other" category, and add a "Games" category? Jeez, I'm so demanding...
  4. Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

I still haven't tried it out, and there wasn't a lot of information on it on its site - do you know offhand if it supports syncing to archives (like if I have a folder whose contents I want to keen...
  5. Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, and the site says its still alphaish so I haven't checked it out, but I just came across conduit, and it looks really nice! I hope they get support for...
  6. Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

Tremulous is awesome. I'd add Gourmet Recipe Manager to the list (I wish it was in the repositories!)

Also, gridwars is a nice abstract shooter.

Re: Nothing is ever good enough

Yes, you can have only four primary partitions. Logical partitions let you get around that.

If you run gparted, it will show you which partitions are logical and which are primary.

Re: Nothing is ever good enough

If you try PCBSD, let us know how it works. I tried it a while back and had all sorts of issues, especially with USB (I think?), and with KDE periodically freezing for a split second (which might...
  9. Re: BBC Click - OpenOffice looks just like 'real' software

Agreed. Why is it still active? Does anyone really think that they were dissing free software?

    Re: Liberation Fonts

Nope, sorry. Tried them again, and still awful (though better at smaller resolutions). Unless you've got some suggestions for font settings that can clear up liberation mono's blurriness, etc., I'm...
  11. Re: how many people do you think pay for their college?

I would say it is fairly high, in the US at least, if you include students going to college on student loans, especially if you consider the number of people returning to college, or starting late,...

    Re: loki installer......

I don't know what you're referring to re: the Doom 3 installer, but yes, NWN has a native linux installer (which means you don't need to have wine or cedega).

    Re: loki installer......

Yes, each game has its own loki installer. And to install some of them, you'll also have to have either wine or cedega installed.

    Re: Liberation Fonts

I appreciate their effort, but these fonts are pretty awful. Liberation Mono looks smeary, Liberation Serif is all crammed together, and Liberation Sans, while not as awful as the other two, looks...

    Re: loki installer......

It works with a variety of games, some of which run natively, some of which run through wine, and some of which run through cedega. If you look on their website, there's a list of games that have...
  17. Re: Mac-style Menu Bar for GTK and Java/Swing applications!

Macs actually kind of have this (sometimes). If you fire up MS Word on a mac, the toolbar is detached and by default aligned with the menubar. When you switch applications (if I remember...

Re: Ever got into an argument with your ISP?

Most of my ISP support calls:

Support guy: "How can I help you?"
Me: "Hi, my internet isn't working. I just reset the modem, and it still isn't working."
Support guy: "Can you reset the modem?"...

    Re: Science dictionary

Not that I know of. OpenOffice is also horrible about knowing lit crit/social sciences terms. I think, though, that if you're inclined you can save all the science terms you've had to add to a new...

Re: Python, pygtk, clipboard, rich text?

Re: Python, pygtk, clipboard, rich text?

Okay, I've got a roundabout method going: copying all my text into a gtk.TextBuffer and then using TextBuffer's clipboard-handling facilities (which is supposed to include rich text, isn't it?) to...

TreeView issues in GTK with Python

Okay, here's the deal: I've got a TreeView set up with two columns, with toggles in the left column and text in the right. Everything looks fineish, but the toggles won't toggle (and I went and set...
