These instructions were from the Ubuntu site and I always copy/paste. I wondered why they didn't just do md5, but Bashing-om has answered my question. Problem is, the hash matches, and so far, trying...

[ubuntu] Re: Nvidia settings reset after every reboot

Mine is doing the same thing, but it only started after I bypassed a KVM switch and directly hooked it up to the monitor. Very irritating to see 900x600 on every restart.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Computer Janitor, Ubuntu Software Center, and Update Manager all close after star

That fixed the issue. I appreciate it.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Computer Janitor, Ubuntu Software Center, and Update Manager all close after star

    jeff@jeff-desktop:~$ update-manager
    Segmentation fault

    Thanks for the quick reply.
  7. [ubuntu] Solved: programs close after starting

I just went to run Computer Janitor, and it started to load, then the tab disappeared. I restarted to see if that might be it. Then went to the Software Center to see if there was something else that...
  8. [all variants] Re: lm-sensors - I need help with new mobo sensors

Have you tried installing xsensors? I just was searching on lm-sensors to add temp and fans to gkrellm, and saw this in Ubuntu Software (9.10).
I only mention this because I didn't see what you have...

There is an option under System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts to launch a Terminal session. Just highlight that and choose an unused keyboard combination.

    [ubuntu] Re: Should I upgrade?

The key phrase is 'important stuff'. I had no problem running the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, but this machine doesn't have any critical data on it.

    [ubuntu] Re: Karmic is fast

I have always been an early adopter and never got burned. What puzzles me is, all my systems are home built with the cheapest components, and cobbled together over time. I have the most Frankenstein...

    [ubuntu] Karmic is fast

I have only played with this for about an hour, but I have to say, this is a very positive experience. Maybe it is because I am now running Firefox 3.5.3, but this thing is blazing.
    Shutdown seems...

[ubuntu] Re: can't boot karmic, not even from live cd

I could only suggest trying an older live CD. I don't work with laptops, but this machine is an Athlon 64 3200 on an old Winfast motherboard. No problems at all to speak of.

    Have you tried using...
  17. [all variants] Re: Too scared to upgrade to Karmic (file corruption)

I used the upgrade option, and see that the file system is still ext3.
Maybe you meant upgrade the version by doing a full install. Regardless, you should have full backups of any critical data if...

[ubuntu] Re: ugly black & white boot splash

Following the simple B&W logo on my system, was an absolutely beautiful screen with a 'bouncing' back and forth progress bar.
I can't wait to get home again and watch it. They out '7ed' 7.

What about 9.04 Edgy??? Buggy as all get out!!!!
  24. Poll: Re: Almost embarassed to say but "I wouldn't update to Intrepid 9.04 if I were you!"

But maybe a clean install rather than an upgrade?

    Always, always, always.
Although I ignore my own advice and have upgraded from time to time. This is non-critical data, however.
