  1. [lubuntu] Re: Mobile Broadband - Huawei BM-358 on Lubuntu-GNOME-13.04.

Just a bump as a last resort before this other 3G broadband stick runs out of its last 100Mb.
  2. [lubuntu] Re: Mobile Broadband - Huawei BM-358 on Lubuntu-GNOME-13.04.

Thanks again for your replies on this gnarly business. I realise that the chances of anyone actually having succeeded in this endeavour with this exact Huawei BM-358 USB stick on 13.04 are slim, and...
  3. [lubuntu] Re: Mobile Broadband - Huawei BM-358 on Lubuntu-GNOME-13.04.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Praseodym. Could it be possible that the driver/s I am after for 13.04 are hard to find on google because 13.04 already has them? I admit I was searching and...
  4. [lubuntu] Mobile Broadband - Huawei BM-358 on Lubuntu-GNOME-13.04.

I bought a Vividwireless 4G Huawei BM-358 mobile broadband stick from **** Smith's in Fremantle Western Australia on Friday, and haven't had any luck getting it to light up yet.

    With my apologies...

[ubuntu] Re: problem realtek 8723 driver

Many thanks Hjolli. I've been searching and searching since yesterday and no luck until I found your solution.

New Toshiba U840W with the Realtek 8723 wireless, and 12.04 Precise w/GNOME,...
  6. Re: Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

LXDE is next on my list after testing out GNOME over Mint,. so thanks mate. It's like having my wife run off with another man, but it means a lot to still have some friends when Ubuntu has left me.
  7. Re: Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

Thanks for pointing that out, mate. 9-)
(I meant content as in data production rather than contentedness, but the two go hand in hand hence the pun).

It might be the way that we use our systems...
  8. Re: Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

Time for me to see about putting the laptop to sleep, so thanks for both suggestions. Tomorrow I'll finish of downloading GNOME for Xubuntu, and test that out. I'll also run up a Live Debian system...
  9. Re: What makes ubuntuforums.org theme very attractive?

It makes me feel nostalgic. It looks like a reference manual used to look.
  10. Re: Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

Thanks again to both of you. I'm running a Compaq CQ60 laptop (named Lucy) that I bought back in November 2009 and she runs Unity okay after downloading the nVidia 185 drivers from the software...
  11. Re: Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

Thanks mate. If you reckon I can tweak the desktop to roughly the same sort of GNOME that I'm used to with Ubuntu, then I'll get on with it tomorrow morning. I'll take your advice, and thanks for...
  12. Karmic Cousins. Familiarity Breeds Content.

I've been in love with Ubuntu for over two years, but still stay with Karmic because of the desktop ever since Lucid. I know well enough where to find the right files in the /usr/share directories...

    Re: Perth Ubuntu Users Group

I'm back in Thailand again now, but Perth is my hometown all my life, and usually based in North Freo now on the weeks I fly home. Email (aseanmorn@yahoo.com) stays the same wherever I am in the...

    Re: Choices = Headaches

Choices are great if one choice is meat and one choice is vegetables. Choices between lamb and beef require more time for contemplation. Choices between brussels sprouts and cauliflour require more...
  16. Re: What internet browser are you using and why?

Still on SeaMonkey because it is neat on the desktop in text format and it reminds me of Netscape 4.71.

Re: What was the first Linux distribution?

I don't pretend it was the first, buit for historical purposes, early versions of Slackware might be worth looking into. Before Redhat and Debian became popular as far as I knew back then in the...

Re: when backing up your files

Typically, it should all be in your /home directory, with /etc fairly easily replaceable with a new install. Don't forget /var/cache/apt/archives for any .deb files you might have added. Keep all...

Re: To many people bad mouthing Ubuntu and Unity

Esoteric details don't get posted on web-forums.

Theravada Buddhism is all my girlfriend knows, but she makes good sense. I;ll explore Fedora et al for the next six months or so, because Karmic...

Re: POLL : your first reactions to the Unity interface

I recommended Karmic to my Mother. I have not been able to recommend anything since then to anyone. Okay for me, but if people pass it on, make sure to iron out the bugs before you release it. ...

    Re: Revive a drowned laptop

Taking into account the hours required to save it, I suggest you buy a new one, and treat it kindly.
  23. Poll: Re: Ubuntu codenames: Ok, we are there... "P"! Penguin yes or nay??

Can you provide an illustration of a Quetzai?

Fair enough though. That's a winner, but a picture would be educational. Is it a bird? Is it a plane?, or is it renouncing its citizenship...
