Right, I got that. It's just, when you install lirc for the first time, it asks you what "Remote control configuration" you want to use.
Anyway, I chose "None" for now and copied that config over...
Since I'm on natty, I already have the proper kernel but I don't know anything about Lirc.
What "Remote control configuration" should I choose when setting up Lirc for the first time?
Interesting. What's the output of
compiz in a terminal?
What's the output of
dpkg -l | grep "fglrx\|nvidia" as well as
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Run Compiz like this in the terminal and see what it says then while triggering compizsnap
VERBOSE=yes compiz
Whoa, sorry. Run a text editor being root
kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list
and remove the line again, then save and update once more.
This is not the proper way to install a graphics driver on Ubuntu - DO NOT INSTALL THOSE PACKAGES MANUALLY (unless you know what you are doing).
Please remove the package again.
You definitely need the proprietary nvidia driver. Nouveau is currently not able to run Compiz on Ubuntu.
I read that there might be a driver available suitable for some cards in the backports....
Is there still no driver available in
jockey-kde ?
Boot into the failsafe GNOME session from GDM (login manager). It should boot GNOME without Compiz being enabled, so you can fix it.
Try this How To to get Plymoth working with fglrx:...
See here: http://forlong.blogage.de/entries/pages/Compiz-Check
After you have rebooted, run Compiz-Check again and post its output here, so we'll see what driver is in use now.
As I said, you are not running Compiz-Check but the compiz binary.
Then you were most certainly running
compiz in a terminal and not Compiz-Check. Compiz-Check does not run Compiz (or any other window manager for that matter) for you.
Please follow the steps...
Compiz-Check does not change anything on your system (unless you specifically tell it to in certain cases).
Post its output here, so people can try to help you with your case.
Two hours? :-k
Are you that low on bandwidth or do you rarely update?
In any case, you can run Compiz-Check to see what the problem is, once updating is finished.
Post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and use the forum's [CODE] tag (# button in the editor) please.
Yeah, I'd recommend un-installing all of them:
sudo apt-get purge fglrx fglrx-amdcccle nvidia-173 nvidia-173-kernel-source nvidia-173-modaliases nvidia-96 nvidia-96-kernel-source...
Please re-download Compiz-Check and try again.
I updated the script to comply with recent changes regarding AIGLX.
Compiz-Check is the script you linked in your first posting, you'll most probably have to run it like this in the terminal:
./compiz-check
Post it's output here, because wee need to know exactly...
That means Compiz is in fact running and you're good to go.
Could you please re-download Compiz-Check and run it again? I have updated it, because they seem to have changed something regarding AIGLX.
The nouveau driver in Maverick is not able to run Compiz. You'll need to install the proprietary nvidia driver.
Try running
gksu software-properties-gtk
and enable maverick-proposed in the...
Thanks for posting your Xorg.0.log, seems like they changed the AIGLX message.
Please download and run the script again. I updated it accordingly.
Also, post the output of
compiz in the...
