  2. Re: Should I Dual Boot ubuntu with a togo Windows 10?

By "ext" you mean external, correct? Maybe that's why it's slow? What do you have internally and what OS, if anything?

I have two internal drives, one Windows 7, one Ubuntu 18.04, and although I...

[SOLVED] Re: How to change font size on top bar

You would modify the system .css files, but have to be careful. Does this help?

  4. [SOLVED] Re: What to look/check for when moving PHP 5.3/4 from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 16.04?

Usually it's due to a legacy code base and is a business decision. The most important thing is to keep a system working and the business must consider the cost of the updates and debugging required...
  5. Re: Why change from Windows 10 on a fast desktop ?

You do know you can run Docker on Mac and PC as well, correct? I work with a company that is largely based in Macintosh, but there are Windows machines there as well. Everything runs through docker....
  6. [kubuntu] Re: "The program 'docker' is currently not installed", even though I just installed i

May not be all that helpful, just to confirm, you did the install as root with sudo? Attempting to run as root? (Their docs show you ways you don't have to run as root every time, once you get it...

    Re: purchasing tablet

You will pay more, but I **love** my System76 Gazelle. What are you paying for?

    - Stellar support
    - Configured for Ubuntu or their own POP! OS out of the box
    - The only company I found that has...
  8. Re: Just wondering about better hardware and time sites load

You still might want to get a "baseline" without the intervention of the browser itself, hence, speedtest-cli. Have you tried comparing with different browsers on the same computer as well?

    A lot...
  9. Re: Why change from Windows 10 on a fast desktop ?

If you like it, you like it . . . . I would **strongly** suggest doing a search for "Windows 10 install top things" and you will find many articles on what you should do immediately if you haven't...
  10. Re: Just wondering about better hardware and time sites load

The short answer is yes, and I am looking forward to responses to this thread.

The longer answer: the following is my own issue with speeds which I haven't sorted out yet, but may give you insight...

Re: JavaScript for system admin scripts

^^ That's another one I need to work on!

WHERE? LOL . . . whenever I mention Perl the reaction is mild. I was a freelancer for years when we still had an chance on Elance (now Upworthy, I...

Re: JavaScript for system admin scripts

Totally got me on the math, I was only saying PHP came out around 95. I don't even recall exactly when I got into coding it. Too long ago.

TheFu you totally missed my point, I've just learned...

Re: JavaScript for system admin scripts

Heh. Preaching to the choir here, but I said the same thing 13 years or so ago (wasn't it 1995?) when PHP was making a strong move for the web. I swore it would never outdate Perl, my language of...

Okay, I followed you down this rabbit hole and got completely fascinated with the topic (albeit, lost!) The one thing that seemed to come up again and again is there **is** no quantum computer...

Re: JavaScript for system admin scripts

Here is a primer straight from Mozilla. A very short, terse summary of server-side Javascript with examples:

  17. Re: Need help with installing Ubuntu on a fresh SSD drive.

^^ Agreed, check your BIOS first. Then once you install successfully, go back in again and put your new OS first.

Way back when I knew very little about Ubuntu/Linux (not that I know a whole lot...
  18. Re: Can you recommend a good computer repair kit?

A particular piece of voodoo to throw in is an electrostatic grounding strap. I've never used one but you're supposed to. :-)

I think the "tools" I use most are a bunch of spare computer case and...

Re: 18.04.3 LTS: two version of java ?

This question is of interest to me as one language I never dug into was Java, and am taking that dive now (and struggling. :-) )

Are you asking if you can run both, on demand? My issue involves...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Bash, has a line already been 'processed'?

Yes I guess that could work. So this external database has no last modified/created fields? If not IMO that's just poor design.

If it does, I don't think you'd need to go to the extent of creating...
  21. Re: check user name and password on database to verify the dataset

All of the mcrypt() functions are deprecated as of PHP 7.1, some removed, some deprecated as early as 5.5.0, and reliance on them "highly discouraged." See any of the links on the mcrypt() page....
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Bash, has a line already been 'processed'?

It's not clear exactly what you're doing but my first reaction is

    - add both created and last_modified timestamps to your tables
    - when your update script runs, record the timestamp somewhere
    -...
  23. Re: check user name and password on database to verify the dataset

The question (or questions) are a bit confusing. Are you asking to solve the database connection problem, or validate passwords, or both? (I'm assuming both)

The link you referenced is discussing...

    Re: Virtualbox with Kernel 5.3

I get this all the time, off and on. I attempt to run the suggested command, still broken. The only thing that seems to work is to uninstall and reinstall VB. The good news is it doesn't lose the...
  25. Re: Occasional OS problem, but no report in 19.04

And your system otherwise seems to run normally after that? Is it possibly similar to this, even though I'm reporting in 18.04?

Sorry there are no answers in that link but have been scouring these...
