well I am making progress,
I booted an older kernel 2.6.XX and it booted into ubuntu 12.04 64 bit with graphics, how ever nvidia drivers are not running. So its a kernel issue or a driver issue my...

I get bios screen, grub screen and then nothing. I can Ctrl+alt+F1 to console and get a display.

hdmi to onkyo receiver (supports HD 1080p ect.) shows bios boot, grub menu, ubuntu...
