  1. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 21.04: libsdl2-dev screws up my whole system

Indeed that is super odd. This is a clean install right? (no upgrade, no /home partition) Actually looking at the debian file inside the .deb the only thing that is in conflict with libsdl2 is...

    Re: Can't extract tar.bz2 file

You didn't tell us where you got that file from. Maybe your download is corrupt. I just tried with download from videolan and tar -xvjf works without problem. Also, you can just right click it and...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 21.04: libsdl2-dev screws up my whole system

I think Nvidia may be responsible for some graphic glitches and black screen, but it doesn't explain the apparmor profile couldn't load. Since you are installing and uninstalling anyway can you make...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 21.04: libsdl2-dev screws up my whole system

That's odd. I have that installed in ubuntu 21.04 no problem whatsoever. Do you have a nvidia card?

    Re: ultra thin laptops

So I was in the toilet the other day and mistaken my ultra thin laptop as TP. :o I have also lost an ultra small laptop the size of a grain of sand, it is probably still somewhere.
  6. [SOLVED] Re: SNAP keeps trying to install AVAHI, Bluetooth - Don't have Bluetooth

It is easy to purge snap.

    sudo apt purge snapd
    sudo apt autoremove --purge
    sudo rm -rf /var/cache/snapd

Then remove the snap stuffs from your $HOME as well (no sudo)
  7. Re: fcitx-table-cangjie5 's pinyin option displays only simplified characters

google-pinyin lets you toggle between traditional and simplified Chinese in fcitx. Not sure if that helps
  8. Re: fcitx-table-cangjie5 's pinyin option displays only simplified characters

In Settings > Language Support you have to add traditional Chinese by checking the box in Install/Remove Language.
  9. Re: Installed Kubuntu in Ubuntu 20.04 and it doesn't work

How so? 18.04 and 20.04 don't look that much different, maybe it is because of old config files that got left over from 'upgrade'. For that and other reasons I never do "upgrade" but a clean install....
  10. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

Most people know about the headache of installing Nvidia driver with the .run file, but Nvidia actually has a .deb repository for its drivers except it is not called that, it is the cuda repo and is...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: How to have two matching ubuntu installations with the same set of installed pack

Of course you can do it manually like you copy the package list when you do an OS upgrade by fresh install, but I think OP wants some way to sync the packages of his two Ubuntus. I don't have an...
  12. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

When I used VB I always use Oracle's repo, I have never had any upgrade problem. As ajgreeny said after each update there is a popup with link to download the matching guest-additions. Yes I do have...

    [ubuntu] Re: Restart to update?

No, that is a gnome-software thing. Update never followed by mandatory reboot if you use apt or one of its frontends (synaptic, muon) to update. On Fedora it is same, no mandatory reboot if use dnf...

    [ubuntu] Re: Restart to update?

I know, but new users would not know these options. I think Windows (only pro and above) has some options to delay or schedule updates too but most people don't know it, but then I can be wrong since...
  15. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

I think the version from the repo is a "community edition" which are missing some features, kind of like Chromium vs Chrome (Debian would not maintain "proprietary" stuff). When you download from...
  16. Re: How do I run Ubuntu from a flash drive?

Because most people only use the live usb to try out and install Ubuntu, not as a 'real' system. You can even do a real installation on a usb drive (not as a liveusb) but in my experience the...
  17. Re: How do I run Ubuntu from a flash drive?

You can create the flash drive with persistence. How to do it depends on the software you use to create the live usb. The option should be pretty visible.
  18. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

You don't need to export to .ova first if you use my command.
  19. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

I could be wrong but AFAIK there is no working way to enable 3d acceleration for Windows guests without GPU passthrough. Probably the most straight forward thing you can do without passthrough is...
  20. [ubuntu_studio] Re: To Update VBox B4/after Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 -or- Switch to KVM

For first question I would update the OS first, besides, if you go the "upgrade" route (not recommended. a fresh install is much more problem free) you should remove all third party software and ppa...

    [ubuntu] Re: Restart to update?

There is no snap, it has been purged. This is a gnome-software store (packagekit) thing, it exhibits the same behaviour in Fedora 34 where you won't find any snap. In fact I first noticed this when I...

    [ubuntu] Re: custom QEMU permissions

  24. [ubuntu] how to set environmental variable for share directory
