No.
I had the same problem and found one, so far: FocusWriter (at gottcode.org).
It's terrible I cannot use Ted, it seems to disappear somewhere after installing the .deb, never to be found again,...
Just to cheer you up , I just did both an update, then a fresh install from CD (dual boot), and got no internet at all, not even repository access. The console ping command works, and that's...
Same problem on an ASUS desktop: no network/internet access, be it cabled or wireless, but for console ping. No e-mail, no browser, no repository access. Both with a lenghty upgrade, then a fresh...
There seem to be mixed experiences here.
Mine is that, even with a clean install, applications that need to use the Internet, and that means repositories too, no longer work, full stop, and that's...
Now I'm really at a loss:

We're not quite there yet... :)

Interesting. (That means "huh?") :)
Are you trying to run wubi on Vista (that's how it should be done) or on Ubuntu? It should be run on Windows, of course.
You don't need a CD to install via...
Ah! Well, if you remove GRUB you will have no more boot at all. That means no system at all. Zilch.
Removing GRUB from a dual boot with Vista is trickier than just using a boot device and MS-DOS...
And if you want to dual boot with Vista I strongly advise you to use the Wubi installer instead of the usual Ubuntu with GRUB. Removing the GRUB boot manager is a pain, but in Vista it's even worse...
Thank Zeus for small things. I had Ubuntu 8.04 installed and my HP Laserjet 1006 working after some fiddling I completely forgot about by now, and went to foolishly try Ubuntu 8.10. The printer...
As I posted elsewhere, I did a 7.10 clean CD install over 7.04. Console ping and ftp worked ok but Firefox and Evolution didn't connect to the servers (two installs). Reverted to 7.04 FF.
Thanks. That's quite it. Not only GCC/C but also Pascal were unable to find some crt1.o and also GCC/C couldn't find its headers as stated here. They're doing alright now and I have a reference...
