  3. Re: Why is it that eclipse cdt sucks *** so bad in contrast to eclipse for java?

Indeed, C++ is a very different beast! However, it may be worth browsing Eclipse plugins/addons, via the menu 'Help->Software Updates...->Available Software', there may be something there more...
  4. Re: Why is it that eclipse cdt sucks *** so bad in contrast to eclipse for java?

No problems here - and I'm writing plus debugging pretty hardcore (C-based) realtime video processing apps and server daemons with it.

In fact it is one of the best C IDE's I've ever used, along...

  7. Re: Would this be possible(openGL) and how to do it

There are some pretty cool 3D map editors out there - you'll be surprised at how much you could get out of them! E.g. such programs as Valve's Hammer to design maps then parse the export file.

    Re: Programming haikus.

    Awesome ones so far :D

I feel compelled to let off some haiku steam after a punishing coding session:

  10. Re: Would this be possible(openGL) and how to do it

To add to the source already provided in this thread, this is from the excellent NeHe tutorials on heightmaps:

As for the weird values -...

    gluLookAt is your friend :)

Small, repeated, tiled textures is the way to go, and you decal them on - modern GPUs support one-pass multitexturing to at least 4 levels and above. As for...

    Programming haikus.

As we all well know, programming can be a fine creative mix of elation and self-flagellation, so here is a thread where one's ruminations on the matter can be expressed via the art of haiku.
    The...
  13. Re: Would this be possible(openGL) and how to do it

You pretty much have it figured out :)

I suggest you start from a simpler perspective - have an array of cubes, say 10x10 and use them as a test for the view selection criteria. One of the main...

    Re: converting heightmap

Are you using colour-indexed texturemaps? In some OpenGL implementations, the behaviour of using such textures in certain contexts is 'undefined' :P

Poll: Re: [Gtk] Glade or hand coded design?

Just finished playing with Glade 3.6 - it looks and operates with more proness! Aside from the odd bug (e.g. comboboxes not updating list parameters betweeen editors) it's an excellent update. Very...

Poll: Re: [Gtk] Glade or hand coded design?

Glade - for me, it's much better for user-based design as I can see exactly what goes where and how it best fits the application/user experience as a whole, plus what Cabalas said.

    And...
  17. Re: Would this be possible(openGL) and how to do it

Let me get this straight - you have a large heightmap split into blocks (e.g. 100x100)?

The app can remain closed-source as long as it dynamically links to LGPL libraries - static linking violates LGPL conditions. If you dynamically link, your installer can download and install any...

    Re: Drawing image from memory.

Any drawing area can have a pixmap copied into it - Gtk has comprehensive functions to do that.

However, I should have linked to something more pertinent to your problem, hope this helps:
