    Optifine does stuff like that quite often. You might try using a different version as I know they love to release dev versions and so forth.

    "they" = upstream with the x folks last I heard. Not ubuntu, ubuntu simply inherited the "usability improvement" the x folks dictated.

    Nexuiz also has a super light graphics mod you could download that reduces it to green/blue blobs >.> but apparently gets pretty high FPS even on a netbook. It's somewhere on their forums.
