    hi. interesting thoughts. however, everything worked as expected before, no modification necessary. the screen seems to work, it just didnt get any signal... i also suspect a physical damage where...

    yes both show up, just the primary is blank (but has light).

    I am now up and running again. indicates that there is something wrong with the hardware, probably loose contacts due to overheating...

    probably in either graphics adapter or screen or both... it seems like the upgrade triggered it. even though it might not be primarily responsible. i let the laptop sit for a day, and i just booted...

    As I said in the initial post, the system works fine, I just need to plug in the external screen via HDMI to actually see it. There is of course HD acitivty, however this being and SSD powered...

    The system works fine, but I only see it on the external screen connected via hdmi.

    I think this is a general Ubuntu problem. I have completely different hardware and also the fan is constantly humming and battery life isn't worth a damn (X1 Carbon Thinkpad)...

    I now tested the HDMI out: No problems, just UI-wise, it would be nice to make it easier to switch between different audio outputs etc.

    quality assurance is not a lenovo strength. i plan on writing an extensive blog post on that soon. there are a lot of minor details wrong with this machine that more quality testing...

    I advise you to try a fresh install of quantal64bit on this machine to make sure the upgrade didnt cause the problems. I have none of the problems you are referring to.

    depends on the definition of quiet, if quiet means off or inaudible, then it's definitely not quiet ;)

    also gets quite hot...

    why did you enable TRIM? and what's the battery time you get out...

    64bit. there is NO reason to do otherwise, and some report that u need 64bit to cope with the UEFI boot.

    12.10, MUCH better compatibility and why use a half-year old OS if you can use the latest?
