Yes, of course. Battery life increases drastically, because bumblebee (exactly bbswitch) turns off your power-sucking Nvidia GPU when not in use. And, you can use the Nvidia GPU if you want.
With...
Your HDMI output is hardwired to your Nvidia GPU. The desktop is running on your intel GPU, which cannot access the HDMI port. Installing any Nvidia driver will fail due to your hybridgraphics when...
Fine. Please mark your thread as solved (Threadtools) then ..
Yes, remove it. Make it look like
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
then close the file saving the changes. When closed, run:
sudo update-grub
Then reboot
Np, its absolute beginner section. I want you to copy& paste the command, not to type.
Paste into the terminal:
gksudo leafpad /etc/default/grub
hit enter and paste the whole terminal...
/etc/default/grub is a path, not a command. Thats why I wanted you to copy,paste and post the whole terminal output here using code tags:
to ensure you give the right commands. "Permission denied"...
Can you please copy and post the whole terminal output, means, the command you gave and the "answer" ;)
I see. You are on Lubuntu, that means your text editor is leafpad (or mousepad, dunno), not gedit. Try:
gksudo leafpad /etc/default/grub
So you have run
sudo update-grub
after editing /etc/default/grub, rebooted and resolution still is 1024x768only?
Please show your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or create new bugreport.
Due to your boot option "nomodeset" VESA driver is running instead of Intel, which limits the resolution. Get rid off that boot option ..
Create & attach a bugreport please..
sudo bumblebee-bugreport
Yep. If nouveau is loaded, the 319.xx installer will blacklist the module. Maybe the author wants to prevent a reboot, but since that howto -for optimus- simply cannot work I have the idea that he is...
Optimus technology is not supported, there is no power saving by switching from integrated to discrete GPU. The 319 driver allows running the whole desktop on the Nvidia GPU, also on muxless...
Your logfiles are ok. The Intel GPU seems to run accelerated, and your Nvidia GPU should work also.
glxspheres
should give around 30 FPS on Intel
optirun glxspheres
should give about 100 FPS...
Nvidia-current will refuse to install if laptop is not set to discrete or switchable graphics.
If it refuses booting/starting X with discrete graphics, try the boot option
"nomodeset"...
So your Nvidia got recognized. Jockey doesn't offer a driver because it would break your X; the Nvidia driver has got to be installed in a special way, as bumblebee does.
Please post output from
...
Sorry, but I do not see any sense here. A kernel upgrade won't help detecting a GPU.
@mahiyabz
You have a BIOS switch for VGA? Does the Nvidia Card appear in W7?
To confirm not-existing nvidia...
@Mahler122
If resizing windows does not help...
...maybe your problems are due to you are running a NVCE, a Kepler GPU, which are not pretty good supported by nouveau atm.
Suggest to jump in irc...
Because you have the Nvidiablob installed. This Folder only exists when running the free drivers.
Well, indeed you do not need to build libXrandr anymore, that is correct, but still xrandr and randrproto, or you won't have any "listprovideroptions" in xrandr. ;)
@ Lekensteyn
Can you drop a...
Thanks. Btw, both guides are "previous" (relative to your post); the last one (post #20) is actual of course ;) (9.5.)
@rockorequin
Just testet daily snapshot 12.10. Everything is now in xorgedgers, besides xrandr. Guess your problems with the modesetting driver instead of nouveau is due to the fact you
have not...
@rockorequin
Guess there is no need at all to build mesa, since 9.0 is already available in xorgedgers PPA. No time to test this now ..;)
Thanks for mentioning typo; could you post the links to...
The information in this post is out of date, for an updated an shorter howto see post #20
Should be available in 12.10. If not, there will be a PPA for prime stuff I guess.
Ok, for those...
