Thanks for the answers and the level-headed patience in the face of my stupidity, good sirs.):P
I ran TOP in the terminal and noticed that there were 2 users and an abundant number of tasks running. I should be the only user. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I've uninstalled all of LibreOffice and re-installed Writer and so far it seems to be working fine. You could do the same thing with the whole LibreOffice suite but I didn't see the point considering...

I'm having the same problem with LibreOffice Writer. Sometimes It runs just fine but usually it crashes at least 2 or 3 times, arbitrarily, during use.
