My first taste of linux was a Knoppix live cd that I used to troubleshoot a non booting windows laptop. Then I started experimenting with Mandrake on my insanely old hand-me-down pc, and I think I...
I still consider myself to be a linux noob, even though I've been using linux exclusively since 2009. Don't feel bad about having to ask people for help either, thats what these forums are for, and...
As far as I'm aware, it is not a hybrid card. Its a big beastly thing that barely fits in my case. And I've had it working perfectly before, but some update in Dec decided to make it give me...
I've tried using the newest driver from the Nvidia site (331 I think) and 319 from the x-swat ppa and I couldnt get either to work. I've removed and reinstalled jockey, removed everything Nvidia...
I cant for the life of me find that thread anymore, its been a few months since I had to use it. But in looking, I'm recalling that I had to install ia32-libs, and when I couldn't find those, I...
Whenever I try to start Steam, it just freezes my whole desktop, causing me to have to hard reset my PC. I'm not certain what could be causing this, I'm leaning towards a graphics driver issue, but I...
Have you tried installing those libraries? I recall having a similar issue when I first installed steam. In fact I think it was that exact library. A little google-fu helped me find the answers.

After reading a few of the comments from your link, I'd wager its more along the lines of fewer linux users were surveyed. I dont recall having a popup window asking me to take the survey, on either...
Well, it turns out that it was indeed a hardware issue, and yes, that hardware was a USB device, like you suggested. While investigating another issue, I was looking in my syslog when lo and behold,...
It did work when I first built the pc last July. The problem started sometime this fall, as I said in the other post, I first thought it was an issue with my phone because I was using Cyanogenmod...
Thank you sudodus, I dont know why I didnt think of trying that. Unfortunately I encountered the same problem when booting a live distro (Kubuntu 13.10). It also took an extremely long time for the...
Whenever I plug in a USB device (phone, usb drive, external hdd, kb, mouse, etc) to my desktop, it takes a while to be recognized. Usually around 1 minute, but sometimes long enough for a quick...
I know its stupid, but did you make sure your phone is set for USB storage?
Yeah, I got it fixed last night. But it wasnt the same problem that you were having. Mine was that the notifications were suddenly white and no matter what I did they wouldnt change.
I'm just...
Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? Or reverting to an older version?
Have you opened up the system-monitor to see if notify-osd is what is delivering the notices? Thats how I figured it out, one of the fixes I found said to restart it, I saw that it wasnt even running.
Well, I discovered what my issue was, I have xcfe4-notifyd delivering the notifications instead of notifyosd. Now I just need to figure out if it will divert back if I remove the xfce one.
I started playing around with a few different themes and like you said, the window color will cause the notifications to change color. I'm having a difficult time finding a theme that doesnt look...
I think Dropbox might let me share it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26008390/-1253800767996.jpg
I tried installing classic gnome and started running into some weird unfortunate problems... internet...
Its this one mirrored.
EDIT: Its normally 1900x1200 but I cant seem to figure out how to upload it at its native res.
That looks great. I'm currently using Cario-dock to keep track of my open windows at the bottom, but its kind of buggy.
I just use the screenshot tool that comes with gnome. I have to scrub out my...
Are you using a lua script for a semi transparent background?
I wasnt sure if that would fix it, but it was worth a shot.
It appears as though your top panel is semi-transparent, I wonder if that is effecting the NOSD. I too am having odd NOSD issues at...
If its a tray icon, go into the dconf editor, go to desktop > unity > panel and add it to the exceptions, or just add "all".
