  1. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to Lucid, black screen, nomodeset not working.

No, I don't think that's the issue. The line is going to look slightly different depending on the individual computer and the kernel version that's running. I don't have any other ideas, but I'm...

[ubuntu] Re: Grub has failed me

Have you reupdated GRUB after installing the update? If you haven't open a terminal then run this command:

    sudo update-grub

If THAT doesn't work, could you copy the text from your grub.cfg file...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to Lucid, black screen, nomodeset not working.

Sometimes this is also caused by a processor problem. If that's the case, you could try either "processor.max_cstate=1" or "nohz=off" instead of "nomodeset". It doesn't sound like you need help...

[ubuntu] Re: 10.04 LTS installation troubles

From what I understand, this error most commonly happens from video card issues. If you search in the forums using your particular make of video card, you might find the specific issues related to...

[ubuntu] Re: Install from USB drive

Well, the CD worked. I'm still quite confused about why the USB drives wouldn't work. Maybe the BIOS on the fairly old unit is just persnickety. Oh well... :P

[ubuntu] Re: Install from USB drive

I'm running into a very similar problem. I've actually got two different USB keys of different makes (one with 10.04 Desktop and one with 10.04 Netbook Remix) that are proven to work in 5 other...

[ubuntu] Re: ubuntu 10.04 install on samsung r60

To change your boot options, select which system you want to boot, then press the key (I think it's 'x'; the bottom of the GRUB window will tell you.) If you select Ubuntu, it should look something...

[ubuntu] Re: error dual boot installing ubuntu 10.04

My dad was having somewhat similar problems the other day; apparently Windows 7 combined with Grub doesn't play very nice when there's a ton of partitions. If there are more than 4 OS partitions,...

Re: Is money the root of all evil?

Indeed! Money is just a tool; it's your attitude about it and/or your actions using it that determine the morality of the issue.

    Poll: Re: Google World Domination

    Sheesh!

Google, somewhat like Ubuntu, is simply beginning to make a splash for the open-source ideal. Where's the Linux conspiracy theory, hmm? The REAL threat for world domination is Apple with...
  11. Re: Anyone managed to get autofill working in Chromium browser?

I found that running the Chromium version of the browser was rather unstable and very glitchy in a lot of areas like that. Most all of them are completely corrected by simply downloading the Linux...

Poll: Re: What is your age and what do you use ubuntu for?

I'm 22. I use Ubuntu on my netbook, which I take with me to class to take notes, use to surf the web, chat with IM and Skype contacts, listen to my extensive music library, etc. I'd change my desktop...

    Re: PulseAudio Equalizer Script

Well, after tinkering for about seven hours, I was able to finally resolve the problem. It was actually an issue with my unit's processor. While the issue was not caused by the EQ, it was exacerbated...

Re: God help those who help themselves

Well, as a complete Ubuntu noob, maybe I can throw in my two cents?

First of all, I don't think it's realistic to assume that MOST new Ubuntu users are that dumb. I mean if we were that dumb, we'd...

    Re: PulseAudio Equalizer Script

I must preface this with profound thanks: Ubuntu definitely needs a system EQ, and I greatly appreciate the time and effort you've put in to building one and helping the rest of us get it working.
