simply, probablly u have router, today most of routers have usb , and then just connect ur printer with cable with printer.

so u have dual boot? and bios setting is same.
probably source of heat is graphic driver which if give u more perfomance in one hand,perfomance in other hand produce heat.

look like out of luck, but you can try to find docking station for particular brand&model which maybe have fireware on itself..;)
