  1. Re: Does changing to Wayland or changing OS to Kubuntu stop from having screen tearin

OP, did the "TearFree" option help?
  2. Re: Does changing to Wayland or changing OS to Kubuntu stop from having screen tearin

Hmmm... sudoedit is a really interesting idea (I wasn't aware of it). With me it unfortunately launches a super-nerdy editor (vim?) instead of my preferred Featherpad. I'll have to play around with...
  3. Re: Does changing to Wayland or changing OS to Kubuntu stop from having screen tearin

The 3442 i3 has Intel graphics AFAIK, which can have problems with tearing.

    Possible solution: sudo open

    /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
and check that it has the following content:...

  5. Applications Menu (Main Menu) customization in Lubuntu 20.04 LTS (LXQt)

Note: probably also works for other flavors of Ubuntu, but I am not able to test it.

The Applications Menu (bottom left corner of the screen) in Lubuntu is NOT some "menu file", so there's no...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - Boot Takes Over 1.5 Minutes?

Yep, with HDD that sounds about right. Consider installing an SSD instead, that should reduce it to around 1/4 of that.
  7. Re: [lubuntu] how to change clock format (12/24) on login screen

Holger, thanks for the clarification. I won't pursue this any further, to me it's somewhat too much effort for a screen that is seen for a few seconds.

    Cheers, :)
  8. Re: [lubuntu] how to change clock format (12/24) on login screen

Yes, you're in the wrong place. SDDM normally reads /etc/default/locale to define the clock format (as does the rest of Lubuntu). However, there is only a limited number of combinations existing. In...

You forgot the step: right click on desktop icon and tick "Trust this executable". This will also remove the exclamation point on the icon.

Re: Lubuntu on a N150 old Netbook

On a fresh Lubuntu install, all programs are in the application menu (lower left corner). If you want program icons on the desktop, just drag them there from the menu.
To enable them you'll need to...

Re: Lubuntu on a N150 old Netbook

The N150 has an Intel Atom N450 which supports the amd64 instruction set.
No reason to choose 18.04, go directly to Lubuntu 20.04 LTS.

From where did you get the install image? www.lubuntu.me is the correct site.

[ubuntu] Re: Eliminate Sign In Password Can't Be Done?

Agreed, my phrasing was not optimal. But we're talking about the purposes, not the PW itself. I've edited my post accordingly; it read as if there are different passwords.

And if the OP is annoyed...

[ubuntu] Re: Eliminate Sign In Password Can't Be Done?

@mawil, you'll need to be a bit more specific about which password challenges you'd like to eliminate:
1: the first login PW at boot/restart. This can be removed - you'll actually be asked about...

"Loud noise after power on" sounds to me like HDD mechanical failure. It happens more often than you think.
  16. Re: Cloning HDD to SSD for use in laptop with different Firmware?

You've chosen the most difficult way of doing this, with limited prospect of success.

A new install with a backup of your user files is the easy and safe way to go in such a situation, believe me:...
  17. [lubuntu] Re: Muon: How to synchronize with CLI install / actual system state?

    lThamks.
I'm also not very impressed with Muon, but as it's the default package manager in Lubuntu, it's what I've used.
I'll take a look at synaptic, thanks.
  18. [lubuntu] Re: Muon: How to synchronize with CLI install / actual system state?

    Thanks to you all.
It seems I've made a bit of a mess for myself here installing fonts with brute force. Live and learn.

oibaf only provides free drivers and updates. If your machine needs a proprietary/non-free graphics driver, sorry, but no cigar.

Another idea is to launch Htop and press F5. This will give you a tree view of which processes/programs have started other processes.
