I did install from the repos (in a fresh install of 18.04) and today Steam won’t start. libxcb-dri3-0 is present under the ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32 folder.

You shouldn’t have chosen to remove it. An update being held back is not such a big deal.
I’m in the same situation. I have version 3.4.7 (3.4.7-1~webupd8~xenial04) installed from the WebUpd8 PPA...
I had this problem a while back and it seems to have resurfaced (after a kernel update?). I found I had a script called wakenet which just contains sudo nmcli nm sleep false to wake up network...
Well, I called the thread Gutenprint 5.2.11 in Ubuntu 14.04, so this is getting a little off-topic, but I’ll foolishly reply to your post anyway.
Isn’t up to me what version I install? There are...
That doesn’t sound like a very practical solution (rebooting every time you want to print something). I really don’t need another installation to maintain either, 2 × 14.04 + 1 × 12.04 + Windows 10...
I haven’t tried downloading 15.10, installing GIMP and checking if the printer is listed but it is in the list of supported printers.
My problem is that after successfully building version 5.2.11...
Is there any way to install the latest version of Gutenprint in 14.04? There isn’t a printer definition for my new Canon Pixma MG7560 in the 14.04 standard repo version (5.2.10-pre2) and building...
But it’s not working?
I downloaded their HTML manual and followed these instructions. The name of the file you downloaded (& the directory) might be different for you. If you follow the first...
The repository mentioned on that page is very out of date - don’t use it!
Canon supplies printer drivers (I just installed a Pixma MG7560 today) so that’s the obvious place to start. Choose the...
OK. I suppose that qualifies as a species of comment, though I’m really not sure this counts as “lighthearted and enjoyable discussions, such as you might find around a water cooler at work”…at least...
For some reason (see proverb about cats & curiosity) I’ve been investigating how to make Ubuntu noisy again. This seems to be a little messy, which I guess is one of the reasons the devs dropped...
I’ve tried downloading what looks like the default icon theme for Xubuntu 14.04.2 (elementary-xfce) from Launchpad but that didn’t help or give me any clues. I might try a reinstall, but I’m not too...
The currently installed GTK theme is Zukimac and the Icon theme is Vertex-icons.
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by what application but I use Unity Tweak Tool to change themes and I also have...
Why is there no delete message option?
Thanks for your replies DFApprentice. Not solutions, but thanks for trying.
Frogs Hair, thanks for responding, but your reply bears no relation to what...
Yes, I mean the regular menus (File, etc) and the context menus. Icons are really useful to me for quickly identifying a choice, especially with custom actions.
I would post a screenshot, but it’s...
I installed Thunar a while back because Nautilus has just become too stupid and although I like Nemo it is a little slow and seems to lock up from time to time, much like Nautilus. I didn’t use it...
I’ve struck this issue when trying to use the motherboard HDMI for audio only.
(If I use my NVIDIA card then I can’t use my second monitor and I get a phantom monitor belonging to the receiver...
I also seem to get logged out often and SSO login is very slow. Is there a default time in which you will be logged out? Can it be changed?
My external IP stays the same for weeks at a time.
If you’re talking about e-books with copyright protection then see above. There are also ways to get around Adobe DRM, but this isn’t the place to ask about that!
If you’re talking about regular...
I have a bunch of folders containing links, created by a script that makes human-readable (rather than numeric) file names for TV programs recorded by MythTV, e.g. /home/sean/TV/French...
3.13.0-61 works for me.
Seems odd that it’s two releases in a row. I just tried choosing “Advanced options…” from the grub menu and loading the same kernel version (3.13.0-59) and had no problem!
I wonder if it’s...
Kernel 3.13.0-58 arrived today and it’s the same story.
Booting in recovery mode worked, but I don’t know why. I think this is the end of kernel.log before my latest hard boot...

-57 boots fine. Can anyone help me diagnose this? dpkg.log shows no errors. I’m a little uncertain about what to look for in other logs.
Boot gets as far as Plymouth (i.e. logo appears) but is...
