  1. [ubuntu] Re: Dual Default Printer Setup. Is it possible???

    Found this:
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/42781944/preview-a-pdf-file-and-choose-printer-before-actually-printing-the-document

I use python3 and a browser (pyqtwebengine) in it. I then...

[lubuntu] Re: installation issues on Acer ES1 laptop

    Line 34:

    To see that without Boot-Repair
    sudo efibootmgr -v

Make sure your UEFI is the most current version available from Acer.

That means you have not set trust and named it to...

    [ubuntu] Re: Grub Boot Issues

    Glad you got it working.

Most of the instructions on the Internet for making a Windows installer from Linux are now wrong. They have you extract ISO to FAT32 partition. Only a few newer...

    Re: Phantom SSD after upgrade

Drives are enumerated by UEFI/BIOS and usually are in port order.
So depending on what port you installed new drive, it may be same or different device like /dev/sda.
    You should always use UUIDs...
  6. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

Standard set of Windows partitions for UEFI/gpt.

    You need hibernate off also.
  7. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

But it is not seeing your NTFS partitions. And that is a Windows issue.
Are you sure Windows fast start up or hibernation is off.

Fast Start up off (always on hibernation), note that Windows...
  8. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

I only know a little python, anymore.

Fast boot is a setting in UEFI. Assumes no system change & immediately boots. Can be so quick you do not have time to press a key to get into UEFI or UEFI...
  9. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

I have installed grub to flash drives just for booting ISOs. But always from a working install of Ubuntu.

You can download grub, but have to compile it yourself, then.
  10. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

The unknown file system is often just Windows fast start up on which sets the hibernation flag, preventing the Linux NTFS driver from seeing the NTFS partitions. Or chkdsk required if NTFS or fsck if...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Can't boot Ubuntu 18.04 from external hard drive.

You may want to remove the SFS/dynamic partitions, anyway.
Some Windows tools do not work on those partitions, so you have unique configuration.
It was used more with old BIOS/MBR configurations as...
  12. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

    What versions, what errors?

And what partitioning do you already have on drive?
    sudo parted -l

Grub only boots working Windows, I would think then Supergrub would be same way.

    If Windows...
  13. Re: Accidentally removed Python, now everything is broken

You may be able to chroot into your system from the live installer & repair it.
If not, new install & restore from your backups is best alternative.

chroot with UEFI, LVM, encryption on NVMe...

    Re: GRUB Problem

There are ways with Windows to also remove UEFI boot entry & /EFI/ubuntu folder in ESP.

    But with Linux:

[ubuntu] Re: Boot problem in an ACER laptop

With newer Acer you need control S to get into additional settings.
Then you should be able to turn Secure Boot off.

    [ubuntu] Re: Grub Boot Issues

I have not installed Windows, but if it sees MBR, it will not install in UEFI mode.
You may need to just erase drive.

If you use gparted, and change to gpt that removes all partitions effectively...
  18. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

Windows only boots in UEFI mode from gpt partitioned drives.
Windows only boots in BIOS mode from MBR partitioned drives.
Microsoft has required vendors to install in UEFI/gpt mode since Windows 8...

    [ubuntu] Re: Grub Boot Issues

It looks like you reinstalled in UEFI boot mode, but but to MBR partitioned drive.
UEFI strongly suggests gpt and Windows only installs in UEFI boot mode to gpt and only in BIOS boot mode to MBR....
  20. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

    Leave UEFI secure boot off.
Then grub should boot it, it Windows boots directly from UEFI.
You may have Windows fast start up on. That must be off for grub to boot Windows as it sets hibernation...
  21. Re: Booting Windows only if USB flash disk is plugged in.

I know grub had issues booting Windows if UEFI Secure boot on.
I expect Supergrub to have same issue as related to the chain of trust and use of UEFI keys.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04: Loading stuck before Grub after recent update

If you report a bug they want lots of details.
Many bugs get auto reported on crash and then all the logs & errors are uploaded.

First check if any reported bugs are similar. Sort by number will...
  23. Re: Best way to multi-boot Linux with Windows 10

If only Ubuntu then, you only have one UEFI boot entry.
I have tried to change the GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR= in /etc/default/grub. It does create a new UEFI entry, but something is hard coded as...
