  1. How To Synchronise USB Output Across Two USB DACs - For Active Speakers

    I've been considering an active speaker project, motivated by the advent of low cost high quality amplifiers (TDA32xx)
    I'm coming up against the challenge of low cost computer output to multiple...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Cuda On Pascal In A KVM VM via VGA Passthrough

    Follow up questions ... have you considered using a container rather than hardware virtualisation ? Much lower overhead. The card would need to be bound and unbound to vfio-pci as required.
    I...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Cuda On Pascal In A KVM VM via VGA Passthrough

    hi m8, have logged back in eventually :)

    What is your use case ? The instruction above do not install any video drivers for the nvidia card .... so not expecting any output to turn up there. My...

    bewdy ... just the ticket.

    Thanks for following through :)
  5. Re: LXD Based Container For Desktop Applications - Some Success - Help (need more)

    thx for the info - Qubes looks interesting. When I set all this up I referred primarily to EAL security ratings ... which led me to KVM (preferably via RedHat / Centos) .... and then Ubuntu since I...
  6. Re: LXD Based Container For Desktop Applications - Some Success - Help (need more)

    Mate, I don't know what I'd do without you :P

    I remain on 16.04 for stability and it's generally working well.

    LXC/LXD is really useful where you want additional "control" and a bit more...
  7. Re: LXD Based Container For Desktop Applications - Some Success - Help (need more)

    Fantastic, thx Kelv :)
    PS long time no see ..... glad to see you're also on the LXC / LXD bandwagon as well as KVM ... they complement one another nicely

    Did you install the newer version of LXD...
  8. Re: LXD Based Container For Desktop Applications - Some Success - Help (need more)

    woohoo .. breakthrough. From LXD V2.7 it's possible ... see the following link (available via email from Simos on LXC mailing list, updated email 04/05/17 09:04)...

    Re: LXC mounting "shares"

    what are you trying to achieve ie. what would you like to occur ? Do you want write access to the share ?
    Basically the kernel is remapping the share into the new cgroups space, with appropriate...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: GPU Passthrough - IOMMU not working for me - on SkyLake 16.04 AsRock

    ok, now you need to assign the elements of the group the video card lies in to vfio-pci. Plenty of instructions on how to do that

    then the easiest step from there is to use virt-manager to create...
  11. [SOLVED] Cuda On Pascal In A KVM VM via VGA Passthrough

    I've just purchased a new Pascal video card, in part for deep learning applications. I wanted to be able to use the card in a VM (because this all runs on my one and only server along with lots of...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: GPU Passthrough - IOMMU not working for me - on SkyLake 16.04 AsRock

    please verify that you have

    A vt-d enabled CPU (not the k series)
    A vt-d enabled motherboard
    Enabled the vt-d facilities via the motherboard's bios
    Set intel_iommu=on in the grub command...
  13. [SOLVED] Re: LXC / LXD - share directory from host to container

    try this code https://gist.github.com/bloodearnest/ebf044476e70c4baee59c5000a10f4c8

    This will create new entries in /etc/subgid and /etc/subuid with a mapping of root to 1000:1 and create a new...
  14. Re: KVM: qemu - can't start guest as non-root using "runas ..."

    I just realised that my test case used a seabios based VM for which I had previously copied the bios file and changed its permissions, so I've updated the script with a line for the "bios" (uefi)
  15. Re: KVM: qemu - can't start guest as non-root using "runas ..."

    oh, also worth noting that if you sometimes use virt-manager / libvirt it will reset the permissions.

    I overcame that by

    Adding libvirt-qemu to my new group
    Moving the passthrough elements...
  16. Re: KVM: qemu - can't start guest as non-root using "runas ..."

    does your id have update access to ALL the files and devices mentioned in the qemu command ? eg.

    /run/hugepages/kvm
    /usr/share/edk2.git/ovmf-x64/OVMF_CODE-pure-efi.fd
    /tmp/my_vars.fd
    ...
  17. Re: KVM: qemu - can't start guest as non-root using "runas ..."

    Is this still an issue ?

    I managed to get it all going some time back on Trusty and still have notes if they're of any value (have now moved to Xenial and using libvirt so not adjusting...
  18. [other] Re: Xenial KVM-QEMU-Libvirt VGA Passthrough nVidia Graphics To Windows

    hi Heiko, I do recall previous discussion :)

    PROGRESS: I have now received the new card, installed it, blacklisted the Nouveau driver (eventually - didn't realise I had [a] blacklist via Grub [b]...

  20. [other] Re: Xenial KVM-QEMU-Libvirt VGA Passthrough nVidia Graphics To Windows

    have you updated the VM machine definition ... I found I needed the latest UEFI bios, in my case I went from
    machine='pc-i440fx-trusty'
    to
    machine='pc-i440fx-2.5'

    which caused a few heart...

    hmmm .. that's unfortunate.

    Is this a new Windows install, or an existing install ? Which version of Windows ?

    Which version of the nVidia driver ? Some of the older drivers were a bit easier...
  24. [other] Re: Xenial KVM-QEMU-Libvirt VGA Passthrough nVidia Graphics To Windows

    @sye737 .... have you also tried without the hyper-v enlightenments ie. do NOT specify the "hv_" parameters anywhere

    Remove the Hyperv section from the "Features".

    <features>
    <acpi/>
    ...
  25. [other] Re: Xenial KVM-QEMU-Libvirt VGA Passthrough nVidia Graphics To Windows

    Progress: I managed to pass the vendor_id parameter through BUT only by adding a qemu argument, not thru libvirt itself. A bit of a hack, but it seems to work.

    Added this to the end of the libvirt...
