  1. Re: What else do I need to do for a reinstallation?

As a footnote, I can confirm that Redo Backup is very simple to use. I used it to back up my root and home partitions, and after some more experiments (still haven't managed to get things working...
  2. Re: What else do I need to do for a reinstallation?

Thank you howefield. That's all I needed to know. And also mastablasta - I'll have a look at redo backup.
  3. What else do I need to do for a reinstallation?

I had a few problems installing 12.04 and had to re-install 10.04 (needed a working computer that evening and didn't have the time to fiddle about trying to get it working properly). All I'd done in...

[ubuntu] Re: nvidia 7025 and ubuntu

The live CD worked for me but the installation didn't. All sorts of problems and I've reinstalled 10.04 for the moment while I look at alternatives.
  5. [lubuntu] Re: USB connection attempt to a Galaxy Tab 7 plus

If you search in the forums for samsung galaxy tab there are quite a few threads and no-one seems to have a solution, other than to copy files via a micro sd card.
  6. [SOLVED] Thunderbird nagging me to compact folders

    Just upgraded to Thunderbird 11.0.1

How do I stop it nagging me about compacting folders every time I move an email?

I finally gave up and allowed it to compact them, just to get it off my back.

    [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 & Thunderbird 3.1.20

Exactly. Probably can't be bothered with 10.04 LTS when they have 12.04 LTS to worry about? It's not as if Thunderbird will suddenly stop working in 3 days' time, is it?

[all variants] What does the timer do in asoundrc?

I have an external USB DAC and to get it to work as the default I've created a $HOME/.asoundrc file containing:

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox-bin not closing

The solution is simple: ditch Firefox and use something else.
Try Google Chrome, for example. That worked for me.

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox-bin NOT closing

I was wrong - using Chrome is a practical solution. Firefox is ditched. Now, I just need to sort out an alternative for Thunderbird and I can get rid of Mozilla completely.

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox-bin NOT closing

Seems like for the moment you can either have Firefox-bin not closing, or no flash.

    Great.

I'll see if I can find older versions of make to try. If all else fails, I can always use the .exe file in windows.
