Re: install game from a .run filetype?

1.0 is available from the Debian/Ubuntu Games Team PPA.

If you still want to use the .run, note that it's a 32bit binary, so if you have 64bit Xubuntu installed you may need 32bit libraries on...

    Re: Shutdown computer via SSH?

    Sure:

    ssh -l user computerb

    sudo shutdown -h now

Of course, the user you log into must be able to issue sudo commands.
  3. Re: Valve Announcement - Steam client coming to Ubuntu

I honestly would love it if there were some sort of option to show people that Unity isn't the only option. I'm not going to hate on unity here, even though I'm not a fan, but if someone else...
  4. Re: Valve Announcement - Steam client coming to Ubuntu

Because changing desktops to something else in Ubuntu is just an apt-get, logout, and login away! :)

Re: Mame slow compared to Windows 7

Not sure what optimizations you've tried but have you at least enabled opengl and multithreading in mame.ini?

(Under PERFORMANCE OPTIONS: multithreading 1 and under VIDEO OPTIONS: video opengl)

Poll: Re: Does your Ubuntu boot in 10 seconds?

I don't reboot unless absolutely necessary, making boot time kind of irrelevant. :)

    Re: Can't install wine1.5.11

Apparently the wine1.5-i386 package for 1.5.11 (which wine1.5 depends on) hasn't been made available yet and is breaking the dependency. Doing a policy query shows only 1.5.10 for it:

  8. Re: DDO/lotro install help! Errors on install. Steam and .exe

You need the program "PyLOTRO", the native launchers do not work at all.

    Instructions are here.

    Re: SDL_OpenAudio failed

Have you tried disabling PulseAudio? PA is nothing but a headache and a problem for me (your experience may differ) and I've benefited immensely by just removing it completely -- at the very least...
  10. Re: GTA San Andreas - Sound Stops After A While

I get audio issues on a lot of things running in Wine if I keep PulseAudio installed and used. Myself, I just completely uninstall and disable PA from my system, but you can temporarily disable it...

Re: PCSX-R Saving and Bios issue

For memory cards, make sure there are new, formatted cards in the Configuration->Memory Cards option.

You can only run the BIOS when you have a real Playstation BIOS image. The simulated BIOS...

    Re: Freedoom and Yadex

    It's in src/gfx.cc

Line 313 should be #else instead of #elif. That's not the only issue, however -- code is quite old and probably needs a lot of work to make runnable.

  14. Re: where do steam games get innstalled in ubunt?????

Wine creates its own "C drive" by default in your home directory under a hidden directory called .wine called drive_c -- by default, Steam would be in [your home directory]/.wine/drive_c/Program\...

Re: Ioquake3 Mods Quake 3 Arena Linux

Yes, all you should have to do is extract it in your baseq3 directory wherever ioquake3 is installed. Make sure you haven't extracted it into a subdirectory inside baseq3, the "xcsv_bq3hi-res.pk3"...

    Re: Wine Sound Emulation

They've simplified the sound output to just use a single driver and dropped the configuration of it in the latest Wine versions since it's generally not needed any more.

Re: which computer from PC museum ?

I agree with the OS/2 guess. That sounds like it describes OS/2, and it could run DOS programs, which was one of the things Prince of Persia was released on.
  19. Re: Installed VVVVVV on 11.10, but it is missing.

Looking at the .deb file contents now, it should have a shortcut entry named VVVVVV -- not sure why it's not showing up. You should be able to manually run it from /usr/games/VVVVVV

Re: NES emulators (Kubuntu 11.10, 32-bit))

    Re: 11.10 - ZSNES doesn't run

You might try removing the ZSNES configuration file (probably in ~/.zsnes) and see if that helps. You'll have to do your settings again but if it works, it'd be worth the effort.

    And snes9x-gtk...
  25. Re: Installing with --force-* using dpkg gets reverted by apt-get in 11.10
