  1. [xubuntu] Re: Xubuntu 12.04 crashing without crash reports

I have been having the same problem for about three weeks now. I will be working for an hour or so, and the system will just freeze. Mouse and Keyboard are useless. Can't even get to a TTY to...

  3. [xubuntu] Network Keeps Disconnecting and/or Will Not Connect

Hi all, I would appreciate any help I can get with this problem. I have been using Xubuntu 12.04 for some weeks with no problems at all. Then yesterday I booted up and the WIFI did not connect and...

Poll: Re: Gnome 3: WIth Poll

I intend to stick with 10.04 on my main machine for now, but when time comes to upgrade I will be going with xfce.

Gnome 3 and Unity seem to me to be the exact opposite of what I want from a UI. ...

Re: How many of you use an Android phone?

I have a Motorola Defy and think it's brilliant. Far easier to use and more intuitive than the iPhone I use at work. (What is with Apple's one-button policy?)

    Only downsides:

  7. Poll: Re: When are you updating your main pc/os to 11.04?

Will be sticking with 10.04 for a while yet. It's just too perfect. Will no doubt give 11.04 a test drive sometime, but see no real reason to change.

Re: Let's abolish daylight savings time

I think whoever invented daylight saving time got it backwards. Wouldn't it make more sense to have it in winter, so it's not dark when you finish work.

Or, alternatively, have it summer, but in...

    Poll: Re: Ubuntu Vista

Hey, some of us have a life outside of Ubuntu. I've tested every Alpha since 6.10, but my time is too valuable this year.

I stand by my experiences with Unity.

    Poll: Re: Ubuntu Vista

Honestly, if you mean will 11.04 make people who try it say "screw this!" and buy a Mac, then yes, I fear it will be the new Vista.

I haven't had time to try 11.04 yet, but have used Unity on...

Re: 10.10 Netbook Edition missing the point?

Sorry to jump into the conversation late, but I just bought a 8.9" eeePC, so took UNR for a test run. Have to add my vote that Unity is unusable. Slow, clunky, poorly thought out UI.

    Changed...

Re: What age did you move out?

Moved out at 17. University was 500km from home, too far to commute :). Had next to nothing saved up, lived on government support (still paying back).

    Re: Goodbye OOo, hello Softmaker!

Actually, there are thousands, nay, hundreds of thousands of companies to blame, as well as thousands of schools, governments, universities, and above all, the ISO.

    Goodbye OOo, hello Softmaker!

Right now I am completely blown away by two things. Firstly, just how good the Softmaker Office word processor, Textmaker, is, and secondly, that I have never heard of it before.

    I have been...
  19. [SOLVED] Re: Help Please. Does this page work for you?

OK, thanks for that. It's not a big issue, just wanted to make sure I hadn't hosed my system. (Been doing some fiddling :))
  20. [SOLVED] Re: Help Please. Does this page work for you?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I tried that too, but got the same result as I did in the Firefox pop-up.

EDIT: Am installing VLC now, and will try to set that as my default instead of Totem.

[ubuntu] Re: Will old Dell run Ubuntu Desktop?

I used to run a P3 900Mhz 512MB, and it worked fine except that Rhythmbox would be a bit jerky if I was doing anything else CPU intensive.

Oh, and ripping CDs slowed everything down.

Big Bang Theory is a comedy? I didn't hear anyone laughing.

Seriously though, IT Crowd is awesome. Moss is one of the greatest comedy characters ever.

If so, then it's a bloody short series. We need more Dr Who. MORE, I says!

And yes, I do have access to them earlier, but want to spread out the fun.
