unfortunately the state of color calibration is shambolic. i'm having trouble with a dual head system with different monitors. X cannot get the colours right in both at once.
i've been suffering with this for a while. dial-up speeds.
the ipv6 stuff does not solve it. Have got the kernel command line set, and for good measure removed firefox ipv6 lookups.
"dig" shows...
same here with low-end radeon card
Has anyone got this to work?
I have an ipod (with Rockbox firmware) at one end, and my mix of video, audio and standard feeds in Google Reader.
I can export OPML from Google Reader. Most ubuntu...
Yeah, how many music/media players do you know that take an OPML file?
Even if they did, my opml export is a mix of feeds of text, podcasts and video, which is bound to cause problems.
What I...
Is there a way of stopping the pointer going into the invisible area of my dual head desktop?
My two monitors are different resolutions, so I always have a corner of desktop which is not...
It appears that opengl applications don't work well with DRI (direct rendering infrastructure v1) - this is quite a major hurdle, apparently, and requires reworking all the drivers to use DRI2. I...
Indeed. You need to use sudo otherwise nothing in the instructions will work.
It's certainly better than trying to configure network manager to share a connection, but has its own problems.
1) it only lets you share with one other interface.
2) it spews an enormous amount...
if you really can't get more RAM in the box, then I still wouldn't mess with tmpfs - it'll just make everything else swap more.
try changing swappinness instead, by moderate amounts. benchmark it,...
not sure about the value of this (RAM caches disk anyway), but you certainly don't need the 1 and 2 at the end.
From man /etc/fstab:
The fifth field, (fs_freq), is used for these...
be aware that each layer does different things to mess up the nice RAID stripes. particular caution with metadata clumping on one disk with LVM (I think there is an option to dodge this). make sure...
this is the most useful and well-informed thread I've ever read on ubuntuforums. thanks!
i'm currently working out the best way to stop the suboptimal defaults of RAID10, LVM and ext4 from...
I've made a very simple change to the forcedeth kernel module, and this ppa package uses dkms to rebuild it automatically. you can change the numbers in my patch to set a fixed mac address if...
don't know the answer, but i'm about to try using DKMS to create a ppa package which will update three crappy lines of a retarded kernel module. this seems extremely complicated, and I was hoping...
yep, I get this in hardy and jaunty with a crappy ralink (don't buy) wifi usb dongle.
I've read other pages which suggest that it works with different kernels (and this device has worked in the...
seems to be stable with most recent ppa networkmanager 0.7
turns out it is supported, but you have to bring down the interface to change mode.
I had lots of crashes using b43, but I think it might have been networkmanager. the changelog showed they had...
you're right - it does work if you take the interface down.
HOWEVER, i've since had loads of hard lock-ups using b43 both with hardy and the kernel head for wireless, and with current intrepid. No...
alternatively, upgrading:
libbluetooth2
bluez-utils
obex-data-server
to intrepid versions (you also need the lsb-base package from intrepid).
remove gnome-bluetooth
reboot if it doesn't...
sadly ad-hoc still not supported by upstream wireless kernel development for the horrible broadcom chips. you have to use ndiswrapper and blacklist ssb and b43.
it's in development - still not working in intrepid alpha 5 with the 2.6.27 kernel. ndiswrapper can do ad-hoc with broadcom 43xx (at least in hardy). see wiki.ubuntu.com for howto.
Please could someone let me know how I can set up a mail server to reject unencrypted emails? I don't mean the connection, I mean the email contents, encrypted by PGP.
I don't mind what mail...
Hi, I've finally got hold of an open source medical dictionary but the files have .tlx and .clx suffixes, and there seems like no way to get openoffice to use them. The format seems simple, and I can...
