  1. Re: Best pre-cloning back-up and cloning process??

Use any file-based backup method you like, then selectively install the stuff you need restored.
Tar was designed for 50MB stuff, not 50GB. Use a real backup tool, not something like ZIP.

    There...

Re: Cannot print until I flush iptables

Yes, you should make it part of the network startup steps. In the old days, that was trivial. Just add a post-up stanza to the interfaces file and be done. In the new systemd world, you'll probably...

Re: Cannot print until I flush iptables

Look through the rules for issues?
Do you do an iptables-restore /etc/iptables/rules.v4 just after networking is started?
  7. Re: After Ubuntu 20.04 upgrade getting errors when trying to connect with Samba

Well, I don't see any samba shares configured. Nothing is shared, when nothing is configured.

And the fstab on that client doesn't show any attempts to mount any samba (or other) shared storage...

And for backups? Seems you've completely forgotten the most important part for any system holding data you actually care about. Backups. Automatic, daily, versioned, tested, backups.

    On a system...

    Re: Swap drive question

There was a long thread here about swap sizing a few months ago. Lots of opinions. Lots of knowledge shared. You should seek that thread out and review it.

when you type df -Th do they show in the list? If not, then they aren't mounted and whatever GUI is showing them is at fault.

  14. [other] Re: How to install email encryption using chrome

Browsers are a failure for secure email. There have been some attempts at browser-based gpg support, but I wouldn't trust these with family recipes.

  16. [ubuntu] Re: connecting two servers acroos wifi router

    That's a pretty important detail.

    a) VMs don't use wifi unless you did something really hard. They use virtual networking provided by the hostOS.
    b) Ensure both systems are set to "bridged"...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: connecting two servers acroos wifi router

First, put them on the same subnet.
Also, if they are servers, your life will be much easier if both systems have static IPs.

The same subnet part probably requires a change inside the router...
