Even though my battery is fully charged, the battery status applet on the panel (Unity) shows 75% all the time ! It was showing 100% before the upgrade to 11.10. Any ideas why ?

After updating the drivers, all three of them are working -- internal mic, headphones and internal laptop speakers !
