[ubuntu] Re: Troubleshooting suspend and hibernate

One of the biggest suspend/reume bugs is having UXA enabled in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for Intel video chipsets.

    [ubuntu] Re: Prolonging battery life

Powertop should make some recommendations as to how to make the changes permanent.

There's also laptop-mode-tools which may offer some additional power savings like hard drive efficiencies.

[ubuntu] Jaunty kernel vs F11 kernel

An interesting question came up in my dabblings with Jaunty and F11. In Jaunty, I can boot the server kernel and see 4gb of memory. With the PAE kernel in F11, I can only see 3gb of RAM. The F11...

[ubuntu] Re: WMV files on Intrepid...

No, it's a wmv file and it apparently doesn't matter whether I launch it from firefox or download it and use mplayer.

For all intensive purposes, it's an attachment to an e-mail.

  9. Re: Dock-style gnome-panel Applet: Does One Exist?

    OK, an update...

If I don't have an app with focus, it will switch to the workspace that holds the app I select.

If an app has focus, you don't move to the new workspace.
  10. Re: Dock-style gnome-panel Applet: Does One Exist?

I just installed task-dock 0.0.2 and it's not workspace aware. Clicking an icon for an app on another workspace does nothing.

Could it depend on the setting for the app window tool that makes it...

If you don't want the panels, regardless of what's on them, you can delete them. If you set auto-hide, the bottom panel and AWN may both pop up if you choose the option in both.
