I hooked up a monitor to the server and that's exactly the same screen as I got form the ssh login
that screen shot comes from a Dell factory installed ubuntu 18.04LTS Desktop, updated via standard update process to 20.04LTS desktop, via an ssh login
here's a screen shot of the login - I hope :-)
Let me know if I didn't attach it properly

I do see a screwed routing table, however. It looks like...
ifconfig
eno1: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.1.89 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255
inet6 fe80::d6ae:52ff:feb8:a7ec ...
kind of weird -
The server has a static ip 192.168.1.89 confirmed by ifconfig
The static IP doesn't show in th Asus Routers table. The router shows the 192.168.1.104 IP
Server can be accessed by...
Nope, no virtual machines. Haven't installed any containers or anything except what I get from apt update
I have a local Ubuntu server - 20.04LTS, with one NIC
Logging in via SSH today I noticed, for the first time, the login screen is showing 2 addresses for the same NIC IPv4 for eno1 192.168.1.89 &...

okay. everything works. Used a different USB-C port on the xps13 with a C-to-A 3.0 adapter and the keyboard delay is gone!!!!!
Tried with a Levono factory installed 20.04LTS desktop; works perfectly. One difference from the Dell is that it used a different type usb port. Have ordered an adaptor for the xps13. Will see what...
I guess if all else fails I'll do a fresh install but I'm not very optimistic that will help for the following reasons.
It's running perfectly fine as long as it's not plugged in to the KVM switch....
Just did desktop version update from 18.04LTS (which was working perfectly) to 20.04 LTS

Okay, I'll keep using "find" :-)
Thanks
Frank
I know all that - that's why I asked the question;
Is there any easier way of removing all the traces of an app rather than running a search for all the places it might have stored...
I deleted Geary from the Software updater
Ran find from terminal and found several references remaining
ran apt remove --purge & apt clean & apt autoremove .
Did find again and there were still...
Don't know what I was doing wrong before but it's okay now. Don't need to disable them
I have a laptop with 20.04LTS Desktop loaded using wireless DHCP. I want to use it as a test server with a static IP. There's a long thread about my problems with static IP in the General Help forum...
That's the tutorial I followed to change it to static.
I'll leave it on DHCP for now and mark the thread solved
Thanks to everybody for their help
Frank
okay, changed back to dhcp and rebooted. Everything runs as expected!!!
any ideas as to why the static settings worked from the terminal but not the desktop.
Thanks
Frank
