  1. Re: Manjaro/Xubuntu/Kubuntu Laptop Freezing Problem

    Welcome.

Please assure you're booting > installing in UEFI mode with Secure Boot OFF / Fast Boot OFF and in your specific case TPM OFF.
In any case you may need UEFI and SSDs firmwares upgrades.
  2. Re: Scanner support for Raven Original

    https://www.raven.com/pages/raven-scanner

This shows USB connectivity as "Flash Drive and Computer TWAIN" for the PRO but "Flash Drive Only" for Original. So, yours has network and local USB media...
  3. Re: Kingston A2000 NVME Drive No Longer Detected

    Welcome.

Legacy mode is certainly NOT as it should be. Everything else is OK (RAID off > AHCI OK, Secure Boot off OK - by the way, it makes no sense mentioning Secure Boot in Legacy mode because...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS freezing during boot up

You need a live session for managing any partition that will be in use when running the system. There's no difference between a VM and bare metal in that regard.
  5. [SOLVED] Re: Restore / Add line numbers to text files

The "hamburger menu" is the top right button with 3 horizontal lines. The setting you're looking for is exactly where's described in the previous comment.

    Re: google drive

How are you mounting it exactly?

The default usage in Ubuntu is via Online accounts. Then it appears as a bookmark in the file manager and works as expected (+/-).
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot boot in UEFI mode with Secure Boot disabled from 20.04.1 Live USB

Many firmwares, past and present, BIOS or UEFI, have had similar "glitches". Reset to defaults was and is a procedure to solve most cases ideed.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS freezing during boot up

Increasing the size of the virtual drive does not increase the size of the partition inside. From a live session booted from the ISO min the VM we can do the usual operations with Gparted. That said...
  9. Re: Cannot mount ntfs drives to anyone but root.

That doesn't mean much. Often you can use NTFS partitions in Linux almost as if there's nothing wrong with them but in reality there are and when mounted in Windows it complains and offers error...
  10. Re: Acer Spin 3 sp314-54n Touchsreen + Touchpad Not working in Kubuntu 20.04/Ubuntu 2

    Welcome.

Additional kernel parameters are added to the same line where you find "quiet splash", with a space between each one.
If it works you can make permanent.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: screen resolution stuck at 840x680

There are no Nvidia drivers for your legacy chipset/iGPU.

It either works with the default open-source nouveau or it doesn't.
Standard Ubuntu (with Gnome) is definitely NOT recommended for such...
  12. Re: Cannot mount ntfs drives to anyone but root.

The drives may need error correction and that can be achieved only with Windows tools.

    I second this suggestion.
  14. Re: No EFI System Partition was found

    @dave_in_roanoke

Please do not revive old threads, open your own if you must. You don't, if you care to read this one and understand UEFI vs BIOS boot processes and consequently how to boot and...

[kde] Re: KDE on Ubuntu 20.04 vanilla

    Welcome.

    Maybe try installing 'kubuntu-desktop' instead?
  16. [ubuntu] Re: How do I get gnome as my desktop?

    Welcome.

Ubuntu 20.04 comes with Gnome by default. It has a modified look&fell though.

If you want "vailla Gnome" instead you can follow this instructions:...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Gnome in 20.04 keeps blanking my screen after seconds

#1 is plausible cause indeed, given the huge differences between those releases regarding the desktop environment.

Re: Unity in Ubuntu Studio 20.04

    Yes, it is.
  19. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

First of all, it's in the UEFI ("BIOS") settings > BOOT menu, not in any OS. And surely there aren't that many places where it could be that you miss it.

But it can be managed by software tools...
  20. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

Your summary report clearly shows all the required bootloaders for Windows and Ubuntu present in the ESP, as it should be.
Furthermore, as expected. it shows the following boot order:

    ...
  21. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

It's in the Boot menu or equivalent. Every firmware is different. Again, where you find "Windows bootloader manager" navigate to it and press Enter (or follow your firmware's specific instructions),...
  22. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

Again, this is textbook example of the "not understanding UEFI" problem.
In UEFI any OS is booted from the ESP (EFI System Partition) - the link above also explains this - no matter where any given...
  23. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

Correct assumption for BIOS systems; totally incorrect for UEFI.
Please check UEFI settings > Boot and where "Windows bootloader manager" is set it back to "Ubuntu". Then boot Ubuntu and run 'sudo...
  24. [SOLVED] Re: Reinstalling Windows on dual boot system

Yes, but those UEFI machines that had the preinstalled Windows 7 in Legacy mode shouldn't count because that can and should be installed in UEFI mode. Why they were sold like this has to do with...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: I can't format texts in an email editor or a browser address bar. They disappear

And although it's perfectly fine and laudable to do it with commands, all of that can be easily done graphically in system settings > users.

No doubt you learned a valuable skill in your research...
