  1. [xubuntu] Re: Unable to mirror desktop using Xubuntu 20.04

In my experience, KDE is rather better with handling external screens than Gnome.

That said, try xrandr from the command line to configure it manually. Google for a man page and instructions.
  2. Re: ubuntu server does not boot without monitor

If you have one, then it will be here:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If you don't have it, then X will look for the screen on each boot and configure whatever it finds, automatically.
    If you do have, it,...
  3. Re: ubuntu server does not boot without monitor

I think that all you need to do is delete the xorg.conf file. Worth a try since it is easy to do.

    [kubuntu] Re: Handcapped adult users

That is what the Guest Account is for.

Enable the Guest account. You don't need to do anything else.
  5. Re: My SDD is not booting anymore - Unable to access

I'm sure this will not cheer you up at all, but I have never been able to recover data from a failed SSD. They all suffered a sudden death and that was it. Now you see it, now you don't.
  6. Re: My SDD is not booting anymore - Unable to access

I am surprised that the Recovery Service doesn't need to reconfigure the nurgle and change the polarity of the forward deflector array also.

As suggested above, you should probably get a second...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and Windows 10 sharing a data drive? Server a better idea?

As mentioned above, a problem with Win10 is that by default it doesn't shut down completely, it hibernates/suspends. Therefore the filesystem on a shared drive may be in a weird state and then get...
  8. Re: using ffmpeg to create a virtual webcam from mp4

I would create a FIFO. Let ffmpeg read from the FIFO and then cat the file into the FIFO, with an infinite do loop.

Breaking it up and isolating the consumer from the producer with a FIFO, gives...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and Windows 10 sharing a data drive? Server a better idea?

A Raspberry Pi with a 1 TB USB memory stick makes a very nice server.
  10. Re: Update errors after installing cross toolchain

Note that development work is best done on a virtual machine, so as not to bugger up the host environment.
  11. Re: Ubuntu server can not be acessed, and is olny pingable for a short time. SSH not

Well, if ping doesn't work, nothing else will. The easiest debug solution is to log into the machine with a keyboard and screen, then verify that the network setting are indeed the way they are...
  12. Re: Ubuntu server can not be acessed, and is olny pingable for a short time. SSH not

My guess is that you have a DHCP problem.

If the network basics are not configured right - nothing will work.
  13. Re: Find process on my machine writing to port on another machine?

It means that you are running a Windows networking system such as Samba.

    etc.
  15. [SOLVED] Re: does formating ssd drive really harms it?

The Macbook I'm wrting this on, is 8 years old and as good as new. So the SSD lifetime is not an issue in practise.
  16. [SOLVED] Re: does formating ssd drive really harms it?

There was a difference many moons ago, but nowadays, cat and dd use the same underlying device file system system code, so they are pretty much equal in performance.
  17. [SOLVED] Re: does formating ssd drive really harms it?

You can blow the disk away by booting an install CD, then:
    $ sudo cat /dev/zero > /dev/sda
    ... very long wait ...

    [SOLVED] Re: swap increases

3.5 days? Linux can run for years without a reboot, but after 3 or 4 years the PSU usually blows up.
  19. [SOLVED] Re: does formating ssd drive really harms it?

An SSD only need to be erased once.

Overwrite it with 00H once only, then install Windows. Erasing flash memory actually turns all bytes into FFH, but Windows sees an all zero disk as a new disk...

I would try xev and xmodmap.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Some keyboard letters and space not working on laptop

    Howdy,

This is an ancient bug in X11/Xorg. Sometimes, it forgets a key or three. This happened to me about 20 years ago.

The solution that I used, was to run xev to see the key codes and then...
