I've got a
Canon LIDE 110
scanner working well on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. It was a bit tricky getting it to work and I tried sevral things. Unfortunately I lost track of what I did, although there...
Thanks.
The object of the exercise was to get the scanner working in 12.04.
Everything failed.
Then I rebooted into Windows 7 and got it going there.
Then back into Ubuntu 12.04, plugged it in,...
I'm trying to learn a bit about all this from the bottom up.
So in this linke here:
http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl?manu=Canon&model=LIDE+110&bus=usb&v=Cano&p=
I have two models of...
I could've sworn I'd added another reply to this thread, but apparently not. Unless it was in a dream.
Yes it works fine, it just doesn't ride in all the way that's all. Perhaps that's allow for a...
I don't think I've got an SDHC card. Is it the same physical size as SD?
It can't be smaller, surely!?
I've been pondering this problem for a long time and have made several experiments. I have an old Sony 32-bit machine and the GNUCash displays fine. Then there's this Thinkpad X201i dual boot. It all...
Yup... errr... It works fine, but doesn't go all the way in!
Cheers!

Well mate, scripts and man pages are something I haven't much clue about I'm afraid, although I'm happy to learn what I can. Man page = like 'The Manual', yes? Presumably scripts are strings of those...
OK thanks... how odd. I'd always assumed these things 'just worked'... mmm.
However on a mechanical level my card only goes in half way and then stops. Is that correct?
So far I've only tried it...
When I got my little Thinkpad and saw the slot on the right side I assumed that you just put an SD card in it.
I took the SD card out of my X201i to move data and the size seemed right on the liitle...
Much the same, mate. Very similar to last pic.
I didn't try these as am in 12.04 32-bit version
Yes mate but it didn't.
When I do, I get this: http://flic.kr/p/cZMyT3
Something about...
In my small Thinkpad X121e with amd chip the machine shuts down fine from the top-right menu, but when I try sudo halt, it all seems to shut down fine, then I get this:

I never really know whether UbuntuOne has synced properly as even a simple jpg seems to take days to decide whether it's really synced, if the syncing symbol is anything to go by as in attached...
Yes I have, and like, Shutter.
But I can't get it to catch drop-downs.
What exactly do I do? (I just tried it!)
Thank you all.
The screenshot program does it, but you can't use the "select area to grab". You have to change the delay to say, 7 seconds and capture the entire screen, then crop it down. It's a...
Many times I've wanted to screen-grab what a drop-down menu says.
However as soon as I go to the screen grabber, the drop-down vanishes.
Can drop-downs be screen-captured?
Yes indeed, thanks. It was the dist-upgrade that I was missing.
Another notch marked on the pole of understanding!
Yes thank you, it certainly has helped.
What I did was change the name back in the hosts file, next to 127.0.1.1 as you say.
The instructions I found for renaming the computer all say just "sudo...
I have a machine I'll be using tomorrow which started getting problem "Unable to Resolve Host" when making updates. I shall be going through the options to see if the matter is resolved.
Meanwhile...
Hi
I am running 64-bit Ubuntu on my main 64-bit machine,
and running 32-bit Ubuntu on my side-kick machine which is also 64-bit.
The Thinkpad I am on at the moment is 64 bit X201i, and I remember when I dual-booted last year with Ubuntu I had to delete a partition (Lenovo Windows Recovery) to enable me to have a partition for...
Thank you, I have found this very informative, and so good to be able to form a mental picture of the sort of thing which goes on and how the first small program, the BIOS is written onto the chip...
Wit all the interesting things occurring for me lately I looked at the attached screen which I must have seen 1,000's of time now and wondered why boter with the windows bootloader when the Ubuntu...
Yes. the one that says ATA HDD0
There are other ATA's there. I guess it might be an idea to get a rough idea of what ATA is, instead of being afraid of seeing it.
The valuable thing to know here...
