Are you talking about the windows panning out and scaling down? If so that's probably my favorite compiz plugin. Its called scale and scale add ons. You can enable them in the compiz settings...

Also, I always have to enter "gnome-shell --replace" twice to get it to change completely (don't know if this is just me).

When you restart it will go back to normal untill you do "gnome-shell --replace" again.

Thanks ucdminer. I was using the same driver, I went ahead and installed the older one from Ubuntu's driver installer and it seems to be fine now.
