Same problem here on my T500 (2082-7SG). Suspend worked fine on previous version of Ubuntu but not anymore on 10.10.

I've successfully compiled mplayer with ffmpeg-mt following andrew's guide (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305181). The only thing changed was this part:
$ cd $HOME
$ wget -N...

Andrew, I've successfully compiled mplayer with ffmpeg-mt but I have some problems. When I play Bluray files, frames are dropped while my dual core CPU is not fully used and the load is not spread...
What should I change in your guide if I want to use mplayer with the multithreaded FFmpeg-mt branch ?

Everything works fine, except the mute button and vertical scrolling with the trackpoint (The previous workaround from thinkwiki doesn't work anymore on Karmic).
It seems like it's a bug as you're not the only one with this issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/364668

I have a Thinkpad T500 and after a bit of searching I found out this problem was known by the developer and did not have a fix right...
Does anyone know when the tearing in videos will be fixed ? Whether Compiz is active or not, I get tearing in my videos regardless of the player used(vlc, mplayer, totem...).
Same problem here with my E-MU 0202 USB. The card seems to work fine for 20-30 secs then stops. Like you I tried the live CD of Fedora 9 and the card worked flawlessly.
