VMware don't really seem to care very much about Linux support as a host. I left message about this and USB support in VMPlayer 2.5 on their forums and no reply.
Issue became worse as no screen edges worked if apps were maximised. Problem went away with reboot.

Thanks for the advice . I fixed this: I deleted all the files in ~/.config/autostart/ and unchecked all the items in "Additional startup programs" and then re-added or re-checked my extra startup...
I am having the same problems and have posted questions on VmWare's forums, but no response so far. There are lots of USB threads.
I'm not sure where to look in there. Also some programs are KDE ones and they started fine in Hardy.
