  1. Re: lubuntu 18.04 installed in 5 gb of 160 gb drive

If you're just trying to set up a Lubuntu 20.04.3 LTS machine, you're making it difficult for yourself.
The installer will do all the necessary things for you. There's absolutely no need to...
  2. Re: lubuntu 18.04 installed in 5 gb of 160 gb drive

What guiverc said. The correct site for Lubuntu is www.lubuntu.me
  3. [xubuntu] Re: Is there a way to block all other users from making ANY changes to my computer?

I always have(at least) two accounts on my machines: my own with sudo/admin rights. No one gets access but me.
And a "myguest" user account for visitors and others with a simple password, eg,...
  4. Re: lubuntu 18.04 installed in 5 gb of 160 gb drive

I'm not certain I understand what you are doing. Do you have several partitioons with different old Lubuntu versions?

More important, what do you want to achieve? A machine just running Lubuntu...
  5. Re: Any Linux distributions targeting mobile laptop computing in 2021?

My experience is, that Linux is less of a power hog than Win10 on laptops. Just the search indexing (which is on as default on Win10) makes the HDD indicator look like a techno rave light show.
    And...

Re: New Installation from DVD ISO failing?

Interesting. I've never noticed snap during installation and I'm surprised that it would already pop up at boot time.

And thanks for the heads-up, making snap a mandatory feature would make me...

Re: Ubuntu Version for Aspire E1-531-4624

I'm with oldfred, choose one of the lighter distros.
I run Lubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on an older (2007) HP Core Duo and it's fast and reliable.

Re: New Installation from DVD ISO failing?

I seriously doubt that your DVD is actually booting. This more likely comes from your existing install.
    Check your BIOS settings.
EDIT: just tried an installation DVD myself. After some seconds of...

Re: New Installation from DVD ISO failing?

Exactly at which point do you get these errors?
    Right after power on/BIOS boot?
    After the blue pre-installation screen?
    After the full install?

The first line on your screen shot is harmless,...

Re: New Installation from DVD ISO failing?

I wonder why an install is trying to start snap. Doesn't make sense to me.

    Re: Issue after installing Bitwarden

Quite frankly, I'd say that getting your basic install stable and running is issue number one.

The Bitwarden thing can be fixed afterwards, Internet access runs from the start without issues.

    How about ed?

    Re: Issue after installing Bitwarden

It seems you might have made a bit of a mess with your Ubuntu install.
The terminal prompt tells you that you are user "katrine" logged into the machine "bitwarden". I don't know if this is correct?...

[ubuntu] Re: azerty keyboard not recognized on VM

You probably need to install the keyboard layout in your VM first. Otherwise it always defaults to US no matter what you try to select.

[ubuntu] Re: How large a /boot recommended for 21.10?

    Interesting discussion.
    I just checked my /boot, it's 207 MiB in size. CORRECTION: that's the directory. I don't have a /boot partition.
I've never done anything with it, so this is the size...

Re: Format HP Laptop for Ubuntu

Let the Lubuntu installer do the formatting. Plan your partitions first and select manual partioning. File system should be ext4, and tick the "format" option for each partition.
    The Lubuntu...
  17. [ubuntu_mate] Re: Why does Ubuntu insist on the default directories, and what is the purpose of Des

I'm failing to see the problem here. The UNIX/POSIX/Linux directory structure is well defined and standardised.
One basic directory is /home where every user is free to do whatever he/she wants in...
  18. Re: "--add-architecture i386" Rendered Laptop Unbootable?

Well, you managed a USB boot. That's always the first/biggest hurdle and it's done. Legacy or UEFI doesn't matter. And HPs are normally easy to install.

Did you even run the installer? It's on the...

Re: Where am I going wrong installing 20.04.3

Normally, the installer will do the job for you. But not always.
First a Disclaimer: I'm very experienced with Lubuntu (four old HP laptops running 20.04), but it has a different installer...

Re: Convert VHS tape to mp4

I can only say: watch ebay, craigslist and other channels to see if one of those players pop up. Unfortunately, most people just see them as old electronics for the dump. Be patient.
    That's also how...

Re: Convert VHS tape to mp4

Sorry to hear about your bad results.
But perhaps your expectations are too high. VHS quality corresponds approximately to 380 x 280 resolution, which is not very good. No real way to enhance this,...

OK, I put on my thinking hat.

I'll leave this script in /usr/local/sbin for several reasons:
1: it's a script for the main/sudo user only, and all other settings for this user are also in...
