    Moderators should use more moderation

Maybe we should try to resolve this problem- some moderators seem to be abusing their authority by moving or closing threads just because they don't personally like the particular topic of...

  3. Re: Article: 5 Reasons Why Switching to Ubuntu is a Really Dumb Idea

Sure, there are problems when you use a Gnu/Linux distro. However, I switched to Ubuntu (and Debian) because of the problems associated with MS and XP, not because I liked tweaking config files at...

    Re: Don't Install Silverlight

Major League baseball has a deal with Microsoft. If you want to listen to a baseball game, the only audio plugins that work are MS media player and Silverlight. I was able to connect using mplayer. ...
  6. Congratulations to NPR Wbur for streaming Ogg

National Public Radio station Wbur-Boston has added Ogg Vorbis to its streaming audio formats (along with realplayer, windows media player, xmms, and quicktime). Check out this link.

Re: Has the Community Cafe become too dull?

I agree, which is one of the reasons why I started this thread. I once started a thread with a link to an article about Ubuntu and XP/Vista- their differences and the future of both. However, it...

    Re: Who thinks GNUcash rocks

No, but I will, even though I'm sure others have suggested it already. The one thing stopping me from using Gnucash (and Ubuntu) in my business is the lack of a point of sale. Although there are...

    Re: Who thinks GNUcash rocks

I use Gnucash at home because it can handle more than one currency. However, for a retail business it needs an integrated point of sale. Otherwise, it'll never seriously compete with Quickbooks.
  10. Re: (RANT!) "Windows Is The Best Because Everyone Knows It "

    Reminds me of a joke:

Julius Cesar goes into a bar and asks the bartender for a Martinus.
"You mean Martini," replies the bartender.
"No. Martinus," responds a peeved Julius Cesar. "If I had...

    Re: Microsoft's Silverlight

All examples of monopolies/oligopolies abusing their power in a corporate friendly America. It's relatively easy to sue, but hard to win. As far as the MLB fiasco, the site designer is not at...

    Re: Microsoft's Silverlight

That happened in the 70's. Since the Regan revolution, big business has been able to do just about whatever it wants to do, without retribution.

    Re: Microsoft's Silverlight

I've already been screwed by Silverlight. I signed up for Major League Baseball audio, and was given the choice of one of two browsers- MS media player or silverlight. I was using my Linux box and...

Has the Community Cafe become too dull?

I remember the good old days when somewhat controversial topics were still allowed in CC threads, which made for great discussions. It seems to me that this particular forum is being moderated to...

Re: Linux 64bit - why not universal?

I'm running 64bit Gutsy on my AMD. It works just fine. All the apps work fine, either in a 64 bit or 32bit environment (like flash). Here's the thing- MS is way behind Ubuntu in the development of...

    Re: The Missing Linux Apps

GNU/Linux will rule. It's just a matter of time.

Wine's really improved over the last year or so. I have an old version of Quickbooks that now works, and it even prints. Photoshop works well,...
  18. Poll: Re: Botanist sues to stop CERN hurling Earth into parallel universe

This isn't the first time that a scientist was worried about CERN. The following is from the book, Lonely Hearts of the Cosmos, by Dennis Overbye:

    "In the mid-seventies, physicists at...

Poll: Re: Your plans for the Hardy Heron??

I have a 64bit AMD and I've been upgrading it since Dapper (all 64 bit OSs). That's impressive! This time I'm going to do a clean install because I dual-boot with XP and the XP is giving me...
  21. Poll: Re: Windows Eee PC Will Outsell Linux Version, Says Asus

I plan on buying an eee pretty soon; I'm waiting for the next release (with a bigger screen and longer battery life). I haven't decided whether or not I will leave Xandros on it, or install a...

Re: Oh, god, no. Real Player for Linux?

Real Player's ok- no malware. I use to use it all the time, but a few months ago I switched to xmms with streamtuner on the front end. Even though I've read that xmms is an old antiquated program,...
  23. Poll: Re: Windows Eee PC Will Outsell Linux Version, Says Asus

I agree, in part. However, there is one problem. When shoppers notice that XP costs more than Xandros, they may come to the erroneous conclusion that XP is better than Xandros. I would have much...

  25. Re: Anyone even use eBay anymore?

I use ebay once in a blue moon (approximately every 2.72 years). Amazon suits me better.
