I was using a HD4850 and changed to a 9800 GT because of issues with the ATi card. Specifically the newer ATi cards have the HDMI audio abilities which seemed to crash a lot of programs for me. ...
I think you can just tell it to open the files with wine, wine should then pick whatever is the default for it... which should be word.
