Why do we need NTP to update the time? Ubuntu knows where I live and forces me to download a package containing daylight savings information. Is that package actually empty?

I'm trying to load my media player, a Creative Zen in Ubuntu 9.04.
It appears in the Places menu as:
But when I try to mount, I get this error:
When I plug the device in, dmesg says:
I can confirm this works for Ubuntu 8.10, Eclipse 3.4.1 and svn 1.5.1
Thanks
Its highly unlikely that my battery gave up right as I installed 8.04, replacing my 7.10.
If you have a look at the battery stats (click the icon in your system tray, then click Laptop Battery),...
After fully charging the battery, I unplugged the cord and these are the stats it gave me:
Whilst I know batteries deteriorate, there is no chance it was this bad before I installed Hardy.
...
I checked out my battery information also, and the last full charge wattage was much lower than the design charge.
I'm going to give it a full charge and drain now and will report the statistics...
With Gusty I had up to 5 hours battery life, but with hardy I get just 2 hours.
2 hours is pointless for a laptop, so I'm at the state of going back to Gusty. Hopefully we can get some good dev...
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, running an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL50.
My old setup:
Ubuntu 7.10 (upgraded from 7.04)
i386 version
60GB hard drive
Up to 5 hours battery life
Sorry, but when is Just 1st?
