    HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z over wi-fi.

    HP's Linux support is fabulous.

Re: Microsoft acquires Skype for $8.5 billion

Similarly, if one can't let such a thing pass uncommented, one should also reconsider one's life. Really, it's all too minor to waste time on.

Can we get to the hand-wringing over the purchase of...

I say we circumvent the issue, and simply point and grunt.
  6. Re: What internet browser are you using and why?

Firefox, because I'm used to it and the bloatyness hasn't had a noticeable effect just yet. Should that happen (and I'm not really expecting it to) I'll probably use Chromium.

    Sometimes I trot out...

Re: when backing up your files

    Both.

I use rsync for a daily mirror, and tar/bzip2 to make a weekly snapshot.
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Update to kernel 2.6.32-26-generic-pae killed my nvidia-current driver

There is something magical about posting a plea for help that makes the brain come up with fresh approaches.

I looked about in synaptic and discovered that - and I really can't explain how I did...
  9. [SOLVED] Update to kernel 2.6.32-26-generic-pae killed my nvidia-current driver

Tonights update from -25 to -26 seems to have broken my video driver.

    Re: need help!!!

A flat-bladed screwdriver will probably be enough to pry the hinge of the lock away from its mount, leaving the box intact.
  14. Re: Whats the most useless piece of technology you have ever bought?

    Yes. Yes, it is.
  15. Re: Whats the most useless piece of technology you have ever bought?

All this finger-wagging is rather sucking the fun out of this thread.

Would it REALLY be too much to ask to let people have their say without questioning their motives? Just for the sake of fun?...
  16. Re: Whats the most useless piece of technology you have ever bought?

The most utterly useless technologies I ever spent money on:

    Homeopathy
    Acupuncture
    Traditional Chinese Medicine

    Talk about regrets. Ugh.

    Re: Are these temperatures normal?

That's an acceptable temp for the Core2duo, it has a top operating temp of 60C. It'd last longer if you can get it cooler, though.

40C is perfect average for most hard drives with 4200rpm...
