  1. [ubuntu] Re: Accessing Samba Share With Name Rather Than IP Address

Thanks bab1! Works for me now.

I'll experiment a bit now that I know where to look.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Accessing Samba Share With Name Rather Than IP Address

As another user experiencing the same problem I would like to add some more info. It was once working with smbnetfs before I upgraded to 11.10

For me it appears to be a CIFS name resolution...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: 9.10 amd64 Screen is Blank after fresh install

Sounds like the framebuffer is dead too. You may have to pass some kernel options in Grub.

    Try: nosplash vga=ask

This should stop the splash screen and give you options for your console display...

    [SOLVED] Re: Partitioning help

You have to make an entry in /etc/fstab for it.

All drives/partitions have a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID). Fstab can use this to always mount a partition to the same mount point with the...
  5. [SOLVED] Re: 9.10 amd64 Screen is Blank after fresh install

Could you please give a bit more information?
At what point does the screen go blank? (after BIOS, after the splash, we need to diagnose if it's an X problem)

Sounds very strange that it still...

Poll: Re: What Feature You Like In Your Distro

So far only 4 people have voted, all for cutting edge (probably other Arch users).

I like Arch because it is up to date with latest packages and the package manager is really fast and simple. I...

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu laptop support: ThinkPad SL500 vs Inspiron 1525.

The Thinkpad SL series has good Linux support. Only problems are with the special keys and brightness control, due to the SL series using IdeaPad firmware instead of the normal ThinkPad firmware.

  10. Re: NSW (Australia) students to receive Lenovo s10e netbook

Oh and $799? They can do much better (even factoring in the 2G ram)

(Edit, for those too lazy to click it's $659 for a white model)
  11. Re: NSW (Australia) students to receive Lenovo s10e netbook

Someone will find a way to break through the lock down stuff, even if the BIOS has to be flashed with the default S10e one. Any tight lock-downs will make the laptop feel like it doesn't belong to...

Re: Why is this computer so slow?

    Wow.... 8 years

And I thought our family PC was a record breaker at 4.5 years without a format (I performed the great mercy last year).

Well I say you should nuke it from orbit, It's the only...

[all variants] Re: laptop harddrive Load_Cycle_Count issue

I'm assuming that you are using the latest Fedora and that Fedora uses pm-utils. So use the Hardy ugly fix.

Firstly, did you remember to make the scripts executable? It doesn't hurt to check.

  24. Poll: Re: What market share will Linux desktop have in three years?

I chose 5-10% (subset 6-7% or about where OSX is now) since there is lots of evidence that it will become popular for many of I-75's reasons, especially if Windows 7 is terrible.
