Nevermind; due to unusually high amount of difficulties of installing ubuntu on this machine starting from grub messing things up with UEFI to ndiswrapper failing to build (official bug) to no GUI at...
Hi everyone,
I have a desktop computer with Ubuntu 12.04 and ATI/AMD Radeon 7790 in CF connected to two displays:
1. CRT1 Sun microsystems 21" with desired resolution 1600x1200@85Hz
2. DFP5...
I do not know, but starting from now, I'll follow the saying "if it works, don't fix it". :)
Scratch this part. I just noticed that I was too lazy to do that; I still have the original kernel installed which was hidden behind "older linux versions" in grub :)
...aaaand it works awesome!...
I fixed the link, thanks;
I didnt increase the CPU speed. I just disabled speedstep in BIOS and out of sudden, the laptop worked as it should (in Lubuntu). At least at the beginning.
SSD is a...
Hi!
I've been using lubuntu on Asus eeepc 901 since July and I've noticed that it gets progressively slower after each update. Right now, it has gotten so painfully slow that even scrolling in web...
Thanks for the reply. The CPU isnt overheating, we are talking about intel Atom first generation here - he is as cold as mother-in-laws heart.
The problem was solved elegantly by disabling speed...
Problem solved auto-magically by wiping xubuntu and installing lubuntu instead.
Hi everyone,
You can see the effect I get when I activate second screen and set the screen positions in arandr. The system is 10 minutes old, fresh install of Xubuntu. Can anyone tell me whats...
The problem is, as I said, the CPU speed also drops when CPU load is 100% or close to 100% (compiling/flash playing/SQL query/PHP script executing etc.) :(
I guess I'll just remove all the...
I already noticed that many people have the same or similar issue, like here but I found no decent answers so far.
I have a reliable but very slow Asus eeepc 901. In all the previous ubuntu...
The signatures of today's update could not be verified, so after the update I started googling and ended up here:

OK I tried the solution and hit the brick wall. OSX seems to start booting but prints out:
boot0: testing
boot0: testing
boot0: testing
boot0: testing
boot0: error
And you were, of course, right about what you wrote. Its not only preferable, I even consider it necessary to write the
menuentry "Mac OS X Boot Loader" {
insmod hfsplus
set root='(hd0,1)'...
Thanks that seems promising - I'll give it a try and post the result. BTW, I also found a cheap solution. Booting up from x86 OSX live CD, pressing F8 and selecting OSX :)
I know there is a similarly named thread already, but my problem is a bit different. The question is, how to boot x86 OSX from GRUB with DSDT (boot stuff that OSX bootloader needs)?
In detail:
I...
Thanks man, but no need for that :) I already fixed the problem in exactly the same way as before. I just posted and refreshed the thread for others that may experience the similar issue.
To be...
Thread bump because I have just experienced exactly the same problem with Ubuntu 11.04 upgrade on the same computer. 11.04 upgrade failed miserably and completely messed up grub. Solution was to...
To developers - please dont 'fix' something that works. I have a usual routine that consists of two steps:
1) open firefox, load youtube and start a playlist
2) open development tools and start...
1) Ubuntu 10.04
2) Prestigio
3) Nobile 157
Everything works perfectly.
1) Ubuntu 10.04
2) Alienware (Dell)
3) M11x
Works almost flawlessly with a few exceptions:
Problem:
1) Microphone doesnt work
2) it wont boot with the 'switch graphic card' option set in...
It must let you access your BIOS (I guess by pressing F2 or F10 or F12 while booting). See if it gets detected there.
Please be more specific when stating 'tried everything'.
Dont get scared - just follow the links provided and you will be fine. And to answer your question, yes, you do need to partition the drive even though its empty :-) Linux usually needs at least 2...
Could be anything, but smells like a dead (or a disconnected) hard drive to me. Go to BIOS of your laptop and see if the HDD gets detected at all. If so, then insert the Ubuntu LiveCD, boot from it...
Thanks! I actually really didn't know that. I always thought that was a bug and not a feature to have all those kernels listed :)
