  1. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu on new retina macbook : any experience ?

It seems that there's no need to boot into OS X to set the Intel card as default anymore. Just run this in the EFI shell (or save it in startup.nsh) before booting:

    echo Switch select

    Re: Kernel 3.8.0-10 won't boot

    No problem :)

The bisect revealed the two git commits that broke the boot process (same as what Seth found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1146988).

    I haven't tested...

    Re: Kernel 3.8.0-10 won't boot

Not yet. I have to go to sleep now (1 AM here :P). Tomorrow, I'll compile 3.8.1 to see if the issue still exists. If 3.8.1 is fine, I'll do a git bisect until I find the exact commit that broke...

Just finished compiling vanilla 3.8.2 - same problem. It looks like this is an upstream kernel issue :(

    Re: Kernel 3.8.0-10 won't boot

Yeah, I'm booting via UEFI. With the W520 being identical with the T520 (except for the graphics card), UEFI could very well be the problem.

EDIT: Looking at Ubuntu's git kernel commit log, the...

    Re: Kernel 3.8.0-10 won't boot

Same problem here. I extracted the initramfs for 3.8.0-9-generic and 3.8.0-10-generic and "diff -Nru" 'ed them. There's no difference other than the newer kernel modules, so this is obviously a...
  7. Re: After i enabled pio (pio=1 qos=0) wireless worked but my windows wireless stoped

Could you try removing the "/etc/modprobe.d/b43.conf" and then try changing to pio mode?

    sudo rmmod b43
    sudo modprobe b43 pio=0

    Nice! But instead of running:

    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make

Hmmm...if it doesn't work under Windows, it's probably either a driver problem or faulty hardware. Try downloading the wireless driver from ASUS's website here:

The top panel cannot be hidden, but the launcher can. You need to install the "compizconfig-settings-manager" package. After you install that, search for "Compiz" in the Unity launcher and open the...

Click the Ubuntu icon at the top left corner and search for "Startup Applications". The dialog will be pretty self explanatory.

That command will enable all icons. By default, Ubuntu enables the list below:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Mumble', 'Wine', 'Skype',...
  15. [other] Re: PanP5 screen flicker/fail - loose video cable

Since System76 laptops are rebranded Clevo laptops, is there any chance that the Clevo model number is printed on the laptop? That would really help with finding a service manual.

  18. [ubuntu_studio] Re: No wireless since installation and no Ethernet connection after first upgrade

Great! I'm glad it worked for you!

If you also have wireless on your computer, I suggest that you install network-manager to connect to your wireless or to automatically set up your ethernet.
  19. [ubuntu_studio] Re: No wireless since installation and no Ethernet connection after first upgrade

Another thought that just occurred to me: it could possibly be a kernel driver regression in the kernel. It's the only thing I can think of that would affect the ethernet after an update. If your old...
  20. [ubuntu_studio] Re: No wireless since installation and no Ethernet connection after first upgrade

Try configuring your ethernet manually by shutting down all the networking services and manually connecting:

First of all, kill the network-manager applet and stop it's service. Then stop, the...

  24. [SOLVED] Re: "mounting aufs on /root failed: No such device" on Remastersys backup failed boot

    You're welcome :D!

  25. [SOLVED] Re: "mounting aufs on /root failed: No such device" on Remastersys backup failed boot

There's nothing wrong with Ricotz's kernel 2.6.36. The AuFS developers haven't created a version compatible with kernel 2.6.36 yet, so that error will happen on any build of kernel 2.6.36. The only...
