It is a hardware problem and it has nothing to do with What OS you use

Flash plugin installation in ubuntu is so damn easy and I don't know why this is a problem in your case. Anyways we can sort that out.
Open a terminal and type
sudo apt-get remove...
ok, Go to Application -> Accessories -> Terminal
And type
sudo apt-get remove adobe-flashplugin
then
close Firefox

There is no point in installing skype again and again alfa. Sound is controlled by the OS (ubuntu). So you have to tweak OS settings if you face any prob with sound.

try restarting your firefox and then see.
If you still get problems, download the flash player deb file from the link I gave earlier and install it. It will work
Why dont you go to the adobe site directly and install the flash plugin for your mozilla firefox. Here is the link, give it a try http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
First remove any other firefox variant (we can install them later after our firefox works properly) use synaptic to install the default firefox with the default version number that comes with ubuntu.
You probably have to reinstall and see if it is working the second time. Some thing might have gone wrong in installation process.

If you want to keep windows and ubuntu on the same machine, you have to first install windows and then Ubuntu. If you do the reverse, Windows will hide (kinda, i mean it wont display the boot menu)...

I just downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 and burnt it. Then I used that CD to install Ubuntu erasing the entire disk and chose to use the entire disk for the ubuntu install.
