  1. [ubuntu] Re: Installing grub to new hdd for existing ubuntu18.04 amd64

I really do not know LVM nor encryption.
But your bios_grub is the size of a /boot partition usually used with LVM?
The bios_grub is normally 1 or 2MB unformatted.
    But default installs of LVM...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 18 live disk "Try" results in errors

Grub will offer to boot other systems, but only if installed in same boot mode. Or all systems must be UEFI or all must be BIOS.
This updates menu, but install should add it. A few systems with LVM...
  3. Re: Dual booting problems acer aspire xc 605 Grub Windows 10 Ubuntu

You need to have Secure Boot on and set a UEFI password. Never lose that password or reset back to no password when done.
I do not have Acer, but thought some of the links gave enough details. They...
  4. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

If it worked before and is not some setting that change, it could be a hardware issue.
Test memory, try without nVidia and whatever else you can do.
  5. Re: Unable to enlarge / and /var using gparted live cd

Default install does not do a separate /var.
It now only has / by default & if UEFI an ESP. Swap is now a file, not a partition. Many do like to have /home or data partitions.

    Post this:
    sudo...
  6. Re: Dual booting problems acer aspire xc 605 Grub Windows 10 Ubuntu

Acer requires UEFI update and if SSD, SSD firmware update.

All Acer seem to need you to set "trust" from within UEFI on the Ubuntu UEFI boot entry, which is unique to Acer.
    Acer Trust...

Re: All my files and softwares are gone

The fsck is only for ext4 formatted partitions.
If you need to repair Windows NTFS you have to use chkdsk from Windows. And You have to boot into repair console or check something to have it run...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Installing grub to new hdd for existing ubuntu18.04 amd64

If hardware is UEFI, I suggest using it.
Some others prefer the now old BIOS configuration.

If you want to use BIOS, I then suggest using gpt and having both an ESP - efi system partition and a...

Make sure it then is unmounted and run fsck on it.

Not as familiar with NVMe drives, but think you need to replace /dev/sdb1 in example with /dev/nvme0n1p3, your parted output should show the...
  10. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

I am starting to run out of ideas. Others with similar models just work.

Suggest making sure ISO is correctly downloaded.
Some find different install tools, different flash drives, or different...

Re: All my files and softwares are gone

Your link also shows using Disks which I find the easier gui way.
The command line ways also work.

    Know nothing about R-Linux.

Re: All my files and softwares are gone

You can use Disks to change labels.

Good, not sure why Boot-Repair's report did not show the grub menu.
Menu shows that you can also boot the install on p3.

Is the install on p3, your original...

Re: All my files and softwares are gone

Boot-Repair has not been totally updated to show all details on the new NVMe drives.

Did you boot from install in p4, report seems to say that.
But report is not showing any grub.cfg in either p3...
  14. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

I have the same USB settings.

But also have in boot options menu full initialization which allows USB boot.
And then under CSM (CSM on) more UEFI options where boot from storage devices - UEFI...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Installing grub to new hdd for existing ubuntu18.04 amd64

UEFI or BIOS installs on both drives?

If UEFI you need an ESP - efi system partition (FAT32 with esp/boot flags).
If BIOS you can just install grub bootloader to MBR of drive if drive is...
  16. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

I have a setting for USB partital or full. And have to enable that to allow USB boot.
  17. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

I would expect as a newer system, you would have more options.
I did find it very unusual that I had to turn on CSM to get more settings under CSM to change UEFI settings. Seemed backwards.

Just run the report that Boot-Repair creates & post the link.
Occasionally the auto fix causes more issues, so best someone reviews it first.

Even though newer, since Asus & Intel, you should have very similar UEFI screens:

  20. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

    Are you installing 19.04?
Have you got UEFI set to boot UEFI only?
My older z97Asus would only boot correctly with UEFI only, even UEFI or CSM/Legacy would not boot correctly.
  21. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

Some motherboards need boot parameters. Exactly what model?

    Is error like this one?

  22. [kubuntu] Re: Unable to install any ubuntu flavour: "Couldn't get size" & "Registered PHC Clock

What brand/model system? Which model nVidia card?
Some need additional boot parameters. With nVidia you probably at lease need nomodeset.

    Have you updated UEFI
And if SSD updated SSD's firmware?...

If you overwrite & reformatted system, most if not all your data is gone. You should then just restore from your backups.

[SOLVED] Re: grub didn't detect windows 10

Since Windows is BIOS boot mode, you need to always boot in BIOS mode.
If you booted Ubuntu live installer in BIOS mode, it should say Legacy Boot.
Do not use UEFI boot mode, unless you want to...
