  1. Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.02 hangs. NVME I/O error?

I/O error is usually a symptom of disk failure. How old is the disk, and what is the SMART status?

On a server, I would recommend setting up smartmontools, to automatically monitor disk health.

  2. [server] Re: 20.04: 'apt-get upgrade' added a huge load of packages and threads

I have a 20.04 server, and I'm running full-upgrade every weekend automatically. Nothing unusual has happened lately.

I agree with Doug, please post /var/log/apt/history.log (at Pastebin or...
  3. Re: Information request: How "easy" is it to add Debian package (experimental) to PPA

It seems this was more difficult than I first thought, since some of the build dependencies for Debian are not available for Ubuntu. So I probably need to setup a Debian VM for this to work, since...
  4. Re: Information request: How "easy" is it to add Debian package (experimental) to PPA

I should probably add, that the programs I'm referring to will run out of the box, i.e. programs I've verified work when I just install the newer binary from Debian - such as the case is with Nano...
  5. Information request: How "easy" is it to add Debian package (experimental) to PPA?

    Hello

I'm new to this aspect, and is seeking overall advice.

I would like to do the following:

Take a newer version of a Debian package than is found in Ubuntu repos
    Test it on my...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: Kern.log is filling up with i2c errors

Just replace the "contain" string with something...

Ok I got this to work exactly as I wanted - here is what I did.

I installed postfix and opendkim on my main server, using the following guides:

[SOLVED] Re: Portforwarding router ubuntu server

That sounds about right. You can port forward directly to the webserver, or if you want more flexibility to a reverse proxy server. With a reverse proxy you can redirect subdomains to different...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: How to send email using another postfix server on the network

    Thanks to both of you.

I read about ssmtp before, and it looks like a good and lightweight option that I'll look into some more
  10. [SOLVED] Re: How to send email using another postfix server on the network

So just to understand your point, you have to install postfix (or something similar) on all servers, even if my "satellite" servers should use the central postfix server to actually send the mail off...
  11. [SOLVED] How to send email using another postfix server on the network

Let me start by saying I'm a complete noob with Unix/Linux email, so there are a lot of things I don't know about this.

    Here's the scenario:

I have a couple of servers, including some VM's,...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: How to disable timeout Ubuntu server 20.04

Agree with Doug - servers do not normally go to "sleep mode". Please describe what is happening, what's working and what's not. Also think about if there is any way you can troubleshoot the problem,...

    [SOLVED] Re: Apt-key deprecated

I created a shell script that can download and install keys to be used with [signed-by=] declaration in sources.list.

    It's available on github.com/ameinild/add-apt-key.

    [SOLVED] Re: Apt-key deprecated

I think the long-term solution here would be to create a script that:

Checks if the key is ASCII-armored - and dearmor if that's the case
Put they key in your preferred folder (for instance...

    [SOLVED] Re: Apt-key deprecated

Please explain this - what do you mean, where did Teamviewer come from?
  18. [server] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.02 repeatedly freezes/crashes. syslog pastebin inside.

The only solutions I can come up with are either:

Reduce "swappiness" if it's because of swap activity
Run fewer jobs that require disk I/O

But you should definitely monitor the disk I/O...
  19. [server] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.02 repeatedly freezes/crashes. syslog pastebin inside.

You have I/O errors on your NVME disk, which also causes system jobs to hang in the kernel for more than 2 minutes. I definitely think you have some kind of problem with the NVME disk - or maybe it's...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Can I install WordPress for local-only use on a normal desktop?

Yes it should be possible. I found the following link, which might help you (it's an older article, but I can't see why it shouldn't work).

    Re: Update security only?

  22. Re: How to stop logging "sdc: can't store path info" error

Fine - but do you need multipath at all? If not, you can as well disable the service and blacklist all devices to prevent future syslog spamming.

I was at a loss at first, but then noticed the very subtle "mc server" - I didn't spot it had anything to do with minecraft at first.

[server] Re: Added PICe SATA card not showing

Try and run the lspci command:

    lspci

This will show you if the card itself is detected.

More info about the command here: https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2014/04/lspci-examples/
