[all variants] Script to Convert mkv to mp4 for your PS3

I noticed that a lot of the HD video content I find on the internet is usually a .mkv file. Unfortunately, the PS3 won't natively play these files, and reencoding HD video takes forever, but luckily...

heh, I don't know that I said 190 degrees. I don't remember the exact value that your smartmontools returned for temp, but it was hotter than I'd feel comfortable with.

Even if you manage to get...

    [ubuntu] Re: odd ssh question

Nope, didn't see anything in the auth.log.

Maybe it's the configuration settings of my ssh client? But that doesn't make any sense really... Either way I'll paste that, maybe something is wrong...

So I've had an ssh server running on my home machine for a while now and recently I switched it over to not accept passwords and instead only utilize public/private key pairs. I'm pretty happy with...

bump before bed as this is an issue that ought to have a simple fix and the fact that scouring the net and forums provides no help is very odd to me...

  17. [all variants] Re: Installed Windows and now my raid 1 says a disk has failed?

No, I tried rebuilding it, and obviously I didn't try to install Windows to a disk that was a member of the array.

smartctl shows the drive is definitely not happy, and it was being detected...
  18. [all variants] Re: Installed Windows and now my raid 1 says a disk has failed?

Well, it looks like the hard drive is bad... That's really shady timing though.

Now I can't seem to get my install to boot from the degraded array... Any ideas?
  19. [all variants] Installed Windows and now my raid 1 says a disk has failed?

It's possible that my hard disk failed the exact moment I installed Windows Vista, but it seems very unlikely... I'll post some stuff that may help, hopefully someone can give me some direction here...

  21. Re: sudo is really annoying and less secure to me

Yea, he's 100% right. Never edit that file in any way other than through sudo visudo.

If you use gedit or nano and hose it, you'll lock yourself out of your own system.

  23. Re: sudo is really annoying and less secure to me

huh? If you don't allow root logins in sshd.conf, and you disable sudo for your user name... then how are you supposed to actually use SSH to do anything useful other than browse your home folder?

    [ubuntu] Re: swap help

Short answer, if Ubuntu has been using the partition as swap space, you're boned.

Maybe someone can give better advice, but I think that's the nitty gritty of it
