    Re: Intrusive Chrome something...

That is a system low on memory. Increase the swap to 4G. More isn't better, but 4G of swap is perfect for a system using a modern browser.
    Firefox is huge.
Most email programs are huge too....

  3. [ubuntu] Re: Problems Backing Up To External Hard Drive

Duplicity has the bonus of storing the data and metadata as part of the backups. The target file system isn't too important, provided the chunked backup files aren't larger than it can support. ...

  5. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu server installation and existing partition

We need much more data and facts to help. How are we supposed to know what sda7 is?

Boot into a Live-Boot desktop environment and install "boot repair". Don't let it actually perform any repair....

    Re: Cannot Delete a user

passwd, groups, shadow, gshadow are all just text files. Any beginning Unix admin guide should explain what each field in each of those files means. It isn't difficult for an admin to understand...

    Re: Intrusive Chrome something...

Sorry I wasn't clear. "chrome" is a generic term for window dressings. Any GUI program has "chrome" - that includes chromium-browser, Firefox, a music player, video player ... any GUI program that...

[ubuntu] Re: Seeking advice for building a new PC

These questions have been answered above. Please re-read.
BTW, SODIMM RAM is for laptops, not desktop motherboards.

I'm loath to attempt any more answers, since it seems confusing based on the...
  10. Re: Looking for Launch Pad for Seniors / Elderly

LXDE can be configured with a left-side launch bar and locked. Used this with my 75+ relatives. It was around 2010 when I set this up, so don't know about 18.04 LXDE. All versions after that are...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Problems Backing Up To External Hard Drive

Backups on Unix systems need to be more than just the files/data. The permissions, ACLs, owner, group are critical for a successful restore.

The file system used matters. Backing up Linux files...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: open virtual hosts in browser from local server ip address?

Virtualhosts require that the client request the "name", not the IP, to know which HTTP/S virtual host is being requested.

    Re: Intrusive Chrome something...

"chrome" is a generic term for pretty window stuff. Thunderbird has "chrome", any GUI program has "chrome" ... think of it like having chrome wheels or bumpers on your vehicle.

Re: Udev Not Mounting USB Drive

I haven't any clue since systemd took over the udev project and "improved" it, but you can use autofs, if you like. It is a little more complex but it will mount and dismount using options we have...

Re: /var not mounting one boot

Is the RAID managed by lvm or is it a separate md[0-9] devices with LVM added on top?

[ubuntu] Re: Seeking advice for building a new PC

Integrated GPUs are on the CPU, not the motherboard. If you intend to have a Ryzen with an iGPU, then get a model that ends in 'g' .... 2200g, 2400g, 3200g, 3400g .... you get the idea. You can...

[kubuntu] Re: x11vnc fails from autoexec

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but are you trying to run the client VNC or the server VNC? I vaguely remember the server was called "vnc-server".

Sorry, I don't know **anything** about win10, but if you don't provide the correct options to ssh, it isn't going to attempt any connection.
